Entry Description

A look at the diverse area of Chinatown

Judge 1

Positives: The interview of the two tourists worked well. The type type font with their names looked good. The interview of the two men who love and work in the community worked well. It gave more specific information about the neighborhood from two people who live there.

Improvements: Creative innovation: All the shots were taken on the day of the Chicese New Year Parade and were mostly of the same street. It would have been interesting to see shots of people who live in the community going about their normal daily routine and how that looks different from other neighborhoods of the city. Lighting: Again, the day was bleary so there was not much going on as far as lighting. An interior shot of a store or restaurant with some different light could have enhanced the film.

Judge 2

Positives: Good timing on the music entering when the video focused on the chinatown gate, and when the narrator paused, the chinese vocalist spoke for a second and the sound was mixed to bring it down lower than the narrator as appropriate. Good use of shots that represented what the people being interviewed liked about chinatown. I really like that Chinese and Asians were interviewed for their perspective and gave really great information about Chinese culture that viewers may not know. I certainly learned a lot from this documentary. It made me want to be there.

Improvements: It might be best not to film Chinatown during St. Patrick's Day. It was better when focusing solely on Chinese culture and holidays. Bagpipes are Scottish. Extra time running at the end of the reel is time wasted. I think one should be thorough when editing and adjust this.

Judge 3

Positives: Wonderful supporting shots. Information presented in a logical progression.

Improvements: Narrator spoke too quickly. Shortening the interviews might facilitate a slower narration.
