  • 4/24 10:32 am - Don't cut to lower cameras during before the basket goes in the hoop. Only use those for replays, cutaways or "hero" isolated camera shots. Announcers did a great job. Your wide angle can zoom in a little bit more. I appreciate the scoreboard in the lower right, but consider some sort of lower third graphic to use (photoshop or other)

Positives: Good use of including the scoreboard in the lower right, it's always nice to have something there providing information for the viewer than having nothing at all. Talent did a good job calling the game without talking over each other.

Improvements: Sometimes when you cut to the camera under the basket, you want to make sure you cut to it early enough so we can see the entire play before they shoot for the basket and not the second before so the viewer can see if there was any foul and not risk missing it with the fast camera change. You can also cut to the free-throw shooter while they are getting ready to shoot especially while the announcer is talking about the player, that way the viewer can see the emotions/nerves of the player getting ready to shoot the basket on a close up shot under the basket, then cut to the wide shot right before they make the shot so the viewer can get a clear look of the ball going in or a missed shot. For sound, having just one more mic setup outside of the announcer headsets can add natural sounds of crowd and game play.

Positives: - Camera work was generally very good here. We had one brief instance where the ball left the frame - operators should remember that there could a steal at any time so they should always stay alert! - Sound was well mixed and clean.

Improvements: - For the director, it's important to know when the appropriate times to cut between cameras are. When you make a cut while the ball is in the air, it becomes difficult for the audience to keep track of it and really understand whether it ends up being a basket or not. I always tell people that 95% of your live game action should stay on your main game camera. It's great that you have the underbasket cameras, but use them for hero shots of the player who just made a basket, replay angles if you have that available, and showing the player at the free throw line before they shoot. While the game is going, your best bet is to stick with your game camera. - The announcers were clearly very familiar with the GBS roster, which should be expected. But it's equally important that you do some homework and are familiar with the visiting team roster as well. Try to use players' names and avoid referring to them by a uniform number.

Positives: The color announcer has good data to share. Hand handheld camera works well.

Improvements: Not enough crowd noise. Wide camera needs to push in when the action moves to the basket. Not enough close ups.
