  • 4/16 1:11 pm - Music was so choppy as you moved between scenes, especially at the beginning, try and blend the audio of each clip into each other. The pieces seemed to be fragmented as opposed to connected. You dipped to black right before the first interview, I would have just dissolved into Ben. The way you did it puts division in your story. Also there was a continuity error in that first interview, I love that you are editing down your interviews to get to the point, but hide those jump cuts with b-roll. The story itself jumped around a bit. The title implies international night but the interviews seem to be more about Key Club, but no one ever tells me what Key Club is or about so I was confused. It is important to know what your objective is when building a story, that way your audience will know too. Your story also ends very abruptly. For being a natural sound package, it does not seem like you put as much thought into making sound the focus in your video, rather something that was just a part of all your shots. This topic has a lot of potential to reel your audience in, but you have to be intentional about making that happen. Which brings up your shots, I thought your video was great lot of diverse shots, angles, close ups etc. It just all needs to work together, and more importantly, flow together.
  • 4/1 1:08 pm - There are jump cuts in the first interview. While there is natural audio in this story, it’s not used in a way that helps to tell the story. How can you use that natural audio to help tell the story? Ask some of the attendees a question about the evening and use their response in the story. Listen to what’s being said in the background of the b-roll you shot and bring that audio up full in the story between the sound bytes to either help support those sound bytes or to tell the story of what is happening that evening. Also, have a clear focus for the story - is it about how Key Club helps out with that specific event? Is it about the event itself? Or is it about what Key Club does in general?
  • 3/5 11:34 am - I loved the opening sounds of this news pacakge and how they helped to set the stage for the event you were filmming at. We got to both see and hear what this international night was all about. For the first interview, I noticed a few jump cuts as your speaker was telling us about the event. I would try to cover these with b-roll to create a cleaner and more professional look. I like how this story was focused on key club and students volunteering in the community. To take your story a step further, I would have loved to hear about how important an event like this is to the community. Having an opportunity to share and learn about new cultures is so important! I would have loved to have heard more about this in your interviews. This was also a sound heavy event. Don't be afraid to pause your interviews and let us hear what is going on. For example, when the one interview talks about dances, pause and let us hear and see those dances!
