  • 4/26 9:57 am - This is beautifully shot and edited. It shows off your product very well. Things to consider for the future would be to potentially show someone enjoying the product. In advertising, when it is possible, it is always a good idea to show the product being used. Now if this was a 15 second ad I would say you can get away with just product shots, but since you went on for 30 seconds I think it would be stronger showing the product in use. All of that being said, you did an excellent job on this piece.
  • 3/4 9:19 pm - It's encouraging to hear that your commercial for Starry soda drink has successfully captured high-quality product shots, which are essential for highlighting the appeal of the product to the audience. Product visibility is a key component in commercial advertising, and excelling in this area demonstrates your attention to detail and ability to showcase the product effectively. However, the absence of a narrative or visual metaphors to convey emotions suggests an area ripe for development. A compelling narrative and the use of visual metaphors can significantly enhance the impact of a commercial by connecting with the audience on an emotional level and conveying deeper messages about the product's value and identity. Here are some strategies to incorporate these elements into your future projects: Develop a Clear Narrative: Start by defining a simple story you want to tell about Starry soda. This could be the journey of someone finding refreshment on a hot day, a group of friends enjoying a moment together, or an individual experiencing a burst of joy or nostalgia with every sip. The narrative should be relatable and reinforce the brand's values and the emotions you wish to evoke. Use Visual Metaphors: Visual metaphors are a powerful tool in advertising, allowing you to convey complex ideas and emotions succinctly. For Starry soda, consider metaphors that represent refreshment, happiness, or energy. For example, the effervescence of the soda could be likened to the bubbling excitement of a celebration, or the vibrant color of the drink could reflect the joy of life's colorful moments.

Positives: Nice work!! Good variety of shots, from the ingredients to the cheers to the sugar cube slam. The music choice and SFX work well! It's always tempting to run with only music for spots like theses, so I appreciate capturing good sounds for these moments.

Improvements: Pacing wise, I think this could totally be stronger as a :15. I would push for faster cutting, and to maybe lose a shot or two from your least favorite pile. I want a story!! Or a message, or even a tagline. Keep in mind that we are storytellers and artists in service of a brand. What I mean by that is, beyond showing the product in a crave-able light, which it does, I want to see some larger conceptual thinking. How does it make you feel? What sets it apart from other brands in the same category?

Positives: Sound is great, I really like the music and the fizz sounds. That all worked really well! Editing is great! It has a fast pace to it, which I think makes perfect sense for this product.

Improvements: Story - I think you need a little more story to sell this product. I think it needs just a sentence or two (VO or text) to really elicit some emotion from the viewer. You did a great job at making the soda look tasty, but commercials need a little more than that. Will this soda make us feel younger? Will it make us feel like life is a party? Will it make our wildest dreams come true?... Something like that is what REALLY sells a product. The light is great at 0:03 but it's slightly shadowy / dark at 0:06. In my opinion, the product (the star of the commercial!) should always be in bright, vivid lights and colors.

Positives: I thought your commercial was great, but crushing the sugar at the end was smart and really helped step up the narrative. I appreciate the simple sounds you added. This should play before a big summer movie!

Improvements: As a classic soda commercial this was great. You paid attention to every detail. And since you did, I wonder why you chose the mason jar glass. I didn't mark you down for it, but it did take me out of the commercial for just a moment. A simple clear, dollar store glass would have had less reflections to manage and would have better fit the vibe since there is no real connection between the soda and the prop.
