  • 4/16 1:26 pm - There shouldn’t be any music in this piece, use the sounds of the store as your soundtrack. I am guessing with all the unique toys and gifts in the store the opportunity is there. Using those sounds would have been a great way to break up the talking into chapters (instead of one long monolgue). Speaking of the interviews, I would have also tried to get a testimonial from a customer to enhance what the owner was saying, and give the overall story a more diverse feel. I don’t know what the pumpkin moon sells until I am about ⅓ of the way into your story. I would have suggested rearranging some of your videos or the questions you asked to get them talking so I would get some of those key pieces sooner. Great visuals I felt like your b roll was diverse, but don’t be afraid to bring in some more close ups, again so many unique things in this shop, show them to your audience. Finally the title at the beginning essentially blocked your establishing shot at the beginning, it was creative for its placement, but before you got off the shot, dissolve the title off and give your audience a chance to see the shop the way they would see it from the street. You are on the right track, follow the parameters of the story and try again next year I think you are on the right track.
  • 4/1 1:07 pm - Your entry had music on it, which is not permitted in this category. At the beginning we can’t see the front of the store because your graphic covers it up. Have the graphic up for about 5 seconds, but then lose it so that the viewer can see the front of the store. Good mix of static shots and shots with movement in the b-roll. Love the little touches you had such as the card holder spinning or the car zooming by on the floor. Remember that this category is all about the natural audio. So along with the interview, let’s hear some of that natural audio in the store - put a wireless mic on the owner and let’s hear her interact with customers, etc. Overall, nice job - just be sure to read the rules so you know what can and cannot be included in the story.
  • 3/5 11:36 am - I love the name "Huskie Hotspot" as the title for this segment. Your interviewee did a great job providing context for what this store was about, but I wish she had said the name of the store right at the beginnig. I would also suggest using a little less headroom when framing this interview. You took a small shop and found a way to film a great variety of b-roll. However, since this is an audio category, I wanted to hear the sounds of this store- people shopping, the cash register, some of the sounds of the toys. Music tracks are not allowed in this category.
