Entry Description

This is a 2 minute cinematic video compilation of various projects I've worked on this in the past year. I shoot a lot of music videos so the majority of the cinematic shots come from within the music videos themselves. I used a combination of bright LEDs to glide-cams to glide tracks to help me produce these visuals along with some visual effects.

Judge 1

Positives: The composition on many of the shots is terrific. The use of special effects in your videography is creative but not overdone, and I love that balance.

Improvements: Instead of seeing a few shots from several video projects, I would prefer seeing longer sequences. Maybe three unedited sequences from your best three projects would make for a better contest entry. That way the judges are seeing your work in some sort of context and with the original audio/music that you used for each project.

Judge 2

Positives: Proper use of light isn't easy to pick up but you do it very well. I know these were various shots taken from other music videos but you did a nice job putting them together and editing them to go with the music. Overall I'm most impressed of your use of lighting because not very many high school students pay much attention to it, but you "get" how important it is to make your work stand out.

Improvements: I saw lots of editing effects, but I'd like to see some more camera effects from you....playing with depth of field or focus...nice job though, very professional looking

Judge 3

Positives: Great shooting! Great editing! Great lighting!

Improvements: When shooting music videos sync is the key. Even if that means having your talent do many extra takes. This is an issue thats not totally your doing but as the shooter its up to you to make it believable that the person is actually singing the stuff. In the future just make sure that your talent is well rehersed ant it will make your end product that much better.
