The students in BHS-TV talk about their experiences in the class.
Positives: This video really gave me insight to how much BHS-TV does for other groups and communities. Great lighting. Consistent, warm and minimized all green screen bleed.
Improvements: You really didnt take any risks on this documentary. Its really only a locked off interview on studio green screen with some b-roll. I would have liked to see more b-roll behind the scenes with some interviews in different locations. I would have liked to see a little more organization of the story. It would have been nice to start with what the tv club is and what it does on a weekly basis, followed by how it reaches out to different programs and finally what TV club is to you personally (you being the talent). Then everyone makes a pyramid in the grass and shouts "THANKS BHS-TV" at the same time while giving a wave. Then everyone falls over and laughs.
Positives: It was great to hear about such a wonderful high school broadcasting program. The opportunities that the students are provided is astonishing. I enjoyed the B-roll footage the most as I was listening to the students' stories. It was great to see the footage of some of the amazing people and places they were able to shoot. Strong B-roll is what keeps the viewer's attention and it worked well in this documentary. It truly felt like these students love this program and weren't forcing any of their interviews. They were able to talk honestly about their experiences and how much they enjoyed this class. This was refreshing to see and hear. Some of the stories they were able to cover were life-changing experiences and the students seemed so grateful.
Improvements: There was a moment during the story about the sober bar that they visited and during the B-roll they showed a guy that they interviewed. It showed him talking but because the student's interview was the only audio we were hearing it looked funny because we were watching a guy move his lips but the words weren't matching because it was someone else talking. I would have been more entertaining to get out of the interviews at moments and see where the magic happens. I would have enjoyed to see the classroom and some footage of the students working on these projects. Some fun, handheld footage would have given us that inside look at this program. This doc came across very serious but with some "behind the scenes" footage it would have allowed some lightness and playfulness to come through.
Positives: Great use of Broll. It added to the story and was a good choice to break away from the interviews. I like how you opened and closed the video with the same person.
Improvements: A through line in the plot. It is a great promo for joining the BHS TV but as a film it lacks a through story / theme. You open with "what their favorite thing about BHS TV is?" It should be able to stand on its own outside BHS students. Feel like the audience should be introduced to BHS TV in the beginning. Video lacked opening and ending to the story. Great middle.
