Entry Description

This is an act from our school's variety show. This production was entirely student produced, directed and filmed. We have a staff of 10 students who are the broadcast production team.

Judge 1

Positives: Nice use of dissolves to transition into different angles of the performer. Audio work was well done - Consistent even when her levels changed.

Improvements: It would have helped to have an unobstructed view of the performer's face. The camera shot through the piano was nice, except when the piano stand was right in the middle of her face. I'm not sure if you were limited as to where your cameras could be set up, but if you had more flexibility I think some other shots, or more variety would have helped give the piece some "emotion." Very good effort!

Judge 2

Positives: Camera work. Lighting

Improvements: The one angle with the wooden riser post through her face...camera placement. The director should have caught that before the shoot.

Judge 3

Positives: Audio mix well-done. Good solid performance by talent.

Improvements: The graphic at the top over the wide shot doesn't work well - it would have been better used over the second shot. Held too long on the shot over her shoulder. The back shot doesn't work well. Shot with the cross bar needs adjustment - it's ok to have the cross bar that holds the piano top up - just move the camera so that it doesn't block the talent's face.
