A news show package about Emery Lehman is an Olympic speed skater.
Positives: nice variety of b-roll good story
Improvements: interview audio really low use tripod for b-roll
Positives: The VO was well written and dramatic. It drew us into the story. A good variety of b-roll made the piece visually interesting.
Improvements: Typically, a cut to black is done for a specific purpose (to increase drama, or stylization.) It seemed unclear what the reasoning behind the blackouts was. The dramatic voice over seemed to be left hanging by the absence of music, Consider using music to support the piece. The sound levels were overall low, and the relationship between the "USA" chants and the rest of the piece was disparaging. It's important to keep most of the sound within a close range (of about 4db) so that the viewer doesn't have to turn their volume up or down throughout the piece.
Positives: Lighting was great. Showed a command of basic lighting technique to enhance the visual story. Very well edited. Black frames used very effectively to enhance emotional impact of visuals. Good mix of interview footage, b-roll, and archive footage.
Improvements: Interview could have used a second camera angle to make it more visually engaging. But well executed overall. Audio mix could have been more level. The crowd cheering was very loud compared to the quiet audio of the interview.
