Feature story on Waubonsie Valley teacher Dan Schatzeder
Positives: good b-roll variety good pacing
Improvements: vary shot selection during interview interview background seems random
Positives: The story had done a good amount of research, which was helpful in bring the viewer up to speed on who Dan Schatzeder is. There was a good amount of b-roll and archival footage, which isn't easy to come by. Nicely done!
Improvements: The piece didn't seem to delve into a deeper story beyond how he got to the World Series. (i.e.: What are great lessons you can pass on to others? What's it like now being out of the spotlight? Where do you think Baseball will go in the future?) Always look for the story beyond the story. Your opening image is not of Dan Schatzeder, which is confusing to the first time viewer, who may not be aware of Mr. Schatzeder. Always consider the first-time viewer, even if your target audience knows your subject well.
Positives: Very good, succinct story telling. Good use of archive footage and stills to help tell story.
Improvements: I think the bigger story in this piece was how the subject went from the World Series to a local high school. A great potential for a local human interest story. Using a variety of camera angles and techniques can help keep a piece visually interesting, especially when focused on a single subject.
