An excerpt from our Spring Orchestra Fest.

Judge 1

Positives: Camera work was steady, transitions made sense and felt natural. It was obvious the director knew the music and knew which instruments to show at the appropriate time. I liked the variety of shots. It kept the piece moving. The audio was consistent - mixing is very important in any type of concert.

Improvements: I would have liked to have had some kind of introduction, maybe a super. just to let me know what I was watching! The start and end of the piece were a little abrupt. I know you have a time limit, however, perhaps a softer part of the music to start and a fade out at the end would be a little softer. A very good effort!

Judge 2

Positives: Cross fades worked well. Reveals/pull backs worked well.

Improvements: Director did not hold the next shot until dissolving to it. Director sat on shots too long, not following the scripted music.

Judge 3

Positives: The camera pan at 1:32 through 1:36 was executed well. The variety of camera angles complimented the visual look of the piece.

Improvements: The sound mix needs improvement. The levels were inconsistent through the piece. It sounded at times as if audio coming only through one side - audio needs to be polarized.
