The October episode of Glenbrook South's news report highlights Filipino American History Month, Red Cross Club's Blood Drive, and the Hellenic Club's participation in the World Cultures Celebration.
Positives: 1. Your newscast was clear, and didn't present any massive technical missteps or errors that might confuse a viewer or zap their interest while watching. 2. I appreciate your inclusion of the calendar events of things happening around campus toward the newscast's end. That's some good "news you can use" for students who are watching.
Improvements: 1. I would have ordered your stories a little bit different in the newscast. Since both the Greek and Filipino stories were about cultural diversity, it would have made a little more sense in my opinion to have them right next to one another than bookending your newscast with two stories that were kind of similar in theory. 2. I think the only other thing I would say is to try and take more risks, like shoot unique camera shots or some story topics that are more niche in focus. There were times where some of the decisions you made in the production of the newscast felt a little too safe.
Positives: The Halloween theme worked well! Nice use of the costumes and graphics to set the tone and great idea to have the "Titan Ten" tie into Halloween. The newscast featured lots of student voices.. terrific job showcasing those voices!
Improvements: Think about ways to add some production value to the tease at the top of the newscast. Video and graphics would help reinforce what topics are coming up. The "Titan Ten" is a good idea to bring more student voices into the newscast. There may be opportunities to increase the production of that segment to make it even more special. Maybe graphics with numbers counting up to 10? But overall a good segment that captures the spirit of the school.
Positives: Really good choices of topics for everyone to learn about what's available at the school. Good clean edits throughout the entire show. The Halloween theme was great - nice touches. Really appreciate the custom virtual set experience.
Improvements: Focus on the storytelling and the photography. If a good story has a beginning, middle and end - focus on building the beginning of a story and find an effective end to the story. You've got the middle pieces really nailed. The photography was either a locked down camera for an interview or a handheld over the shoulder with a lot of wide shots. We missed the variety of angles and close-ups that could also help with the visual storytelling.
