  • 4/30 4:25 pm - +Nice archival photos for b-roll, interesting topic, nicely shot! -Only piece of feedback is it would be good to have more than one person interviewed.
  • 4/19 1:51 pm - KEEPERS: This is a really well paced, and put together documentary on a war veteran. The interview was well framed focused and shot and the photos were all well sequenced and ordered to help tell the story visually. It was very well done. IMPROVEMENTS: I wanted to hear and see from another voice for this story. A family member, child, spouse, etc., to discuss this person and how they view and discuss their service. Five minutes is a long time to hear from just one voice in a documentary. I also wanted to see more footage aside from interviews and photos. More footage from the airport, arrivals, begin greeted at the gate, etc. I don't know to what degree you were involved in capturing this broll, but getting and using additional footage for this story is vital. I would have loved to have heard more natural audio. Announcements from the flight, cheers from onlookers, etc. Pace your broll a bit better. When he discusses the various monuments he saw, you don't need to cut to all of those as they're mentioned. You can pick out 2-3 and have them on screen for a longer period of time. I've seen enough of the interview footage at that point. I'm fine to see more intersesting visuals, such as the monuments. Overall, at times your photos seemed a bit rushed in certain parts of the story. Watch your audio mix. At times the music felt a tad too hot. Also, use another song at some point in this documentary. I would actually argue a piece like this should have at least 3 songs: 1 song per beat of the story. The song changes once the story changes.

Positives: -Well shot interview, great production quality all around -Great job sourcing an important person to interview and their story

Improvements: -open with "i knew many of them weren't going to survive." best line in the whole film that could serve as a set up. Also strays away from this, I care more about this angle of the story than the minutia of the Vietnam war. This is my personal opinion though but just food for thought on what is an engaging story. If you hear something like that on set, dig in. there's your story -get more creative with photos than just ken burns transitions, i cringed at the stock photo of an american flag zooming out, took me out of it

Positives: Good, noble story telling. Vietnam's legacy is so sad, so I feel the existence of this video is a blessing for some one. the cinematography was really popping very well during all the DC and plane scenes. made me question what this was shot on.

Improvements: it would have been interesting to grab some sound bits or interviews from other players. the honor guard. all the volunteers. expanding the over all scope. but other wise. I don't want perfect to be enemy of the good. there was a lot of poignancy involved in a production that was produced modestly.

Positives: Great story presented really well. Very moving. The use of music to instill emotions was great. Great use of stills. The movement and composition choices on the stills kept the project at a good pace. It kept your interest. I did cry, very moving.

Improvements: Use your scopes and make sure Luma levels are consistent. Graphics could have been up longer. Some people are really slow readers.
