  • 4/29 1:24 pm - The editing and use of different video styles works really well. The story is a bit unclear- how can you make it more clear that they are overwhelmed and discontent with the monotony of their jobs?
  • 3/3 12:17 pm - This music video opens with an interesting and attention-grabbing intro that immediately sparks curiosity. The concept has potential, but the opening would feel stronger if it connected more clearly to the rest of the video. Strengthening that throughline between the introduction and the main body of the piece would help create a more cohesive and purposeful viewing experience. It is clear that you had a lot of fun filming this project, and that energy comes through on screen. The performances and shot choices feel spontaneous and enthusiastic. Moving forward, dedicating more time to preproduction planning could elevate your work even further. Storyboarding, outlining a clear narrative arc, or identifying a unifying visual theme ahead of time would help ensure that each shot contributes to a larger story or concept. When the images connect more intentionally, the final product feels more polished and impactful. On a technical level, there are several strong elements worth highlighting. The use of original music adds authenticity and creativity to the project. The color grading enhances the overall mood, and the post-production effects show a willingness to experiment and push stylistic boundaries. With stronger planning and clearer narrative connections, your creativity and technical skills could combine to create an even more compelling and cohesive music video.

Positives: I liked the animation that was used in this on the intro parts of the video. I really really liked the VHS footage in this. In my opinion you could have shot the whole video in VHS and it would have been a cool home video type style that is pretty popular nowadays.

Improvements: I'm not really sure what the story was on this project. What I know is that there is a band, and we are out having fun. That can be a story worth telling, but there wasnt a definitive sequence that led me to believe that the outing that the band had was real. I'm not sure why some scenes were sepia tone, and what that added to the story, but other than that the scenes sitting there on the computer were okay.

Positives: I love the tune! Super happy to see a real band showcasing their talents. Originality and authenticity go a long way. I also loved the way the whole project looked. From the grainy effects to the dark mood lighting of the office scenes, even the way the performance space was shot. From start to finish there was a unifying aesthetic. I didn't notice the extra video layers of doodles and art right away but they were tastefully done and added to the overall whimsical feel.

Improvements: It seems like the story was given away too easily. The band was revealed very early on and maybe could have benefitted from being held back a little and establishing the office scenes more first. Give the audience more of a story to follow with more reveals to anticipate. There was one effect near the end where the editor keyed out the band members sitting in a row (around 2:23) and played with image layering. Cool idea, but throwing it in at the end felt really distracting and the blurry edges made my brain focus on the edit instead of the story. Also, the bass player should be the lead singer. What a voice! That all being said, I enjoyed this video a great deal!!!

Positives: Really strong music video! You can tell thru this film that you all have a lot of fun together and have good chemistry as a band. The mixed media approach works excellently - the drawn on animations are lovely (the moving outline on bass guy at 40 sec was especially strong) and the mix of digital & VHS or whatever type of handycam type deal you had going was great. The frame story about the guys having office jobs was clear enough and the footage was entertaining, but it didn't add a whole lot to the experience overall. Keep making songs and music videos together!

Improvements: Feeling like the audio mix on the song could've used another refinement pass. It's passable but a bit rough around the edges which was distracting. There's a flash frame at 44-45 seconds (going from medium on guitar guy to close up of keys). Always be sure to give your stuff the once, twice, thrice, million times over treatment before you submit it to get rid of silly stuff like that. Just my opinion, but traditional, white-on-black rolling end credits (especially for a short piece like this) are capital U Ugly. The opening title design (where it says Cheri etc. at the start) is beautiful! Keep that energy up for the end credits. Credits matter - they're part of the film!
