I made this music video based on my infatuation with the 80s and analog video equipment. Specifically, I shot it on a Canon GL1 camera from 1999. I used analog video mixers with circuit bent analog equipment to make all of the glitches and distortions. I used a video synth for the background graphics. Everything in production was analog.
Positives: The retro vibe is really refreshing and nice to see in this hyperclear visual day in age, so its nice to see this style in a music video. Very fun and bright feeling. I like the VFX throughout including the waveforms, cloning, and clip masking.
Improvements: Would have liked to see a title card that gives it the same feel for this one. That adds to the feel of it. Some of the effects are on there too strong, hard to see sometimes.
Positives: Everything. Everything worked well. The effects were so effective and complete. You existed in that world for the whole 3:18. And you kept evolving your images and keeping it fresh and interesting. Every shot was composed well and the image layering added so much dimension. And such a cool song. IDK without Ryan?!
Improvements: More. More stuff. Shoot more stuff. The less you have to recycle shots, the more interesting it's going to be. This video format is almost "infomercial" style. Look at this, now look at this and now this! The more things you can feature, the better. Keep em guessing what's next. That's all I got. You had a vision and you nailed it. This video is awesome.
Positives: This project demonstrates an extraordinarily high level of competency not just with the analog equipment I can tell you have such an admiration for, but with the music video medium and cinematic communication as a whole. The piece starts strong and continues to evolve in a really purposeful way, so nice work keeping things fresh. I was thoroughly entertained - simply wonderful work. Don't stop making things!
Improvements: No notes! I am serious!
