  • 4/30 1:16 pm - Very cool piece. Love the kaleidoscope vibe and the use of lighting to keep the look throughout. Nice balance between the music and the VOs. The whole piece blended was locked into the theme of appreciating different perspectives and diversity. I'm not sure how the text "Patterns" fit into it though. And the one thing I would suggest is to try to keep all the VOs with the same enthusiasm. Some came across flat in their reads and some you could hear the passion.
  • 3/9 8:34 am - I liked the idea of starting this with the kaleidoscope and then maintaining that perspective with a filter/visual effect. Figuratively, the kaleidoscope infers that we're going to see some shifting perspectives and a variety of different things. I think that you did that pretty well with showing the various students and their hidden talents and interests. I think one thing that would have maybe enhanced the piece would be a lower third along with their little intros towards the end of the piece? I liked how you used different colored lights in the recorded pieces for each student as well and continued to play on the kaleidoscope theme. Overall, I like this idea. It would be a cool way to break up news stories in a broadcast or even play before the end credits of a program that you guys produce. Cool idea and executed well!

Positives: Nice fit together in the narrative of a "mosaic" Interesting stories presented

Improvements: The kalidoscope film technique got annoying after awhile

Judge 2

Positives: The kaleidoscope effect is a genuinely clever concept and the ending where all the names come together is the strongest moment in the video. You can tell there was real creative vision behind this one and that kind of big-picture thinking is exactly what makes a promo memorable.

Improvements: The concept is creative but it's hard to follow without enough context. People appear on screen without names or any explanation of what they're working on, so it reads more like a slideshow than a story. The kaleidoscope effect also doesn't fully land until the end, which means most viewers won't connect the dots until it's almost over. A stronger approach might be to work backward from that ending, build toward the reveal rather than hoping the audience catches up. Adding names and a quick identifier for each person would give it the human element it's missing right now.

Positives: You took a collection of single stories and combined them into one powerful message. Very inspirational.

Improvements: I kind of understood the fragmented pictures (shots) - but I think it was too much. Just my opinion, but I thought it was a little distracting. The kaleidoscope idea worked as a great base for the story, but probably should have stopped there. Or swap between fragmented shots and regular shots during each individual story.
