  • 4/24 10:14 pm - Brilliant work! The premise of doing a Planet Earth-style documentary is clever, and you executed it really well. The mix of stock footage with your own high school ecosystem shots was seamless and effective, it really captured the tone and style of nature documentaries. Your footage was well shot and thoughtfully chosen, and the way you blended it all together made the piece feel polished and purposeful. A really creative and well-executed project, great job!
  • 4/24 9:22 pm - It definitely gave the feel of a BBC Planet Earth documentary. It was edited and paced well and fit that theme to a T! The audio at :17 was peaking a bit (though this may have done on purpose to show the craziness of the school environment) and it kind of takes you out of the smooth flow of it. The juxtaposition of the elegance of the outside scenes versus the scary nature of school could still be achieved, though, if that were the case. And this is nitpicking a bit. Everything else works well here as a cohesive piece. It teases what the mockumentary is about with smooth edits that are funny and engaging.

Positives: Great job! The parody/mock element works extremely well. Great setup and payoff. The intention and supporting VO is clear, and the humor really shines through... all the way down to the WMTH logo! Stylistically excellent.

Improvements: The VO could use a little bit of a "bass boost" just to give it a bit more gravitas. The dark semi-opaque layer on top of the footage (where there are center titles) could be reduced a bit to allow for a better window into the beautiful high-frame rate footage you shot – though I understand why this was done. Excellent job on your entry this year – there was clearly a lot of skill and talent put into this piece.

Positives: Clever. Good use of stock footage with original footage. Nice, clean voice-over. Cleverly written and edited. Particularly liked the first scream. Near perfect in execution of its idea. Original and funny.

Improvements: Honestly, my favorite of the bunch. I wouldn't change a thing. Keep in touch as I am an active judge/screener in several film fests, particularly The Midwest Film Festival in Chicago. Cheers! ojamal@depaul.edu

Positives: Clever idea for sure! I had no idea where it was going, and that surprise factor made it even funnier. The background audio and sound design were really cool—definitely added to the vibe and helped build the humor.

Improvements: Some of the B-roll didn’t totally line up with the main shots, so it felt a little off in places. Also, the text overlays were up just a bit too long—tightening that up would help keep the pacing snappy. Small stuff, but easy fixes that would make a big difference!
