This video follows Tyler, The Creator's song "Igor's Theme," capturing interesting TV visuals and references to differing forms of media. Mixing both Cinema and TV to make a chaotic visualiser.
Positives: The intro scene was really put together and nice. It made me excited to start the video and the lighting was top tier. The slow motion shot in the garage was cool also. The framing of the garage with such a simple shot of you playing guitar was super cool.
Improvements: I'm not a huge fan of all the repetitive graphics that were used throughout. If it was just one part of the video I could understand it, but the edits lasting throughout the entire video were almost too much. Not sure what the story was here, but becasue it didnt have one, I became disengaged with it. Seeing the same graphics over and over gave me a little fatigue.
Positives: The editing and effects are quite impressive. There was a lot going on visually but all the elements blended together well. Working with the timing of the song and synching with key moments of footage was very effective. The video editing seemed to be just as musically minded as the song itself.
Improvements: There were a few too any recycled shots. With how awesome each section looked, I think the audience would have benefitted from more settings and scenarios. In particular the shots with the guitar in the garage became increasingly difficult to watch. At 1:50 you added in extra audio from a shot. I couldn't understand what he was saying. Could have been a cool moment but it ended being a little confusing. But in general I really liked it! Great effects work!
Positives: The graphics and vibes come first here, which in my opinion is how a music video should be. Striking visual ideas glued together by some sort of something-or-other to make the video make sense and have a place in the world. This type of filmmaking takes an immense amount of time spent behind the computer screen to get right, and that time you spent SHOWS big time in the final product. The majority of the visual ideas really do work for me but a couple that stood out for their particularly polished execution are the Brady Bunch frame at 1.51 and the kitchen burning down stuff at 2.38 (great example of making do with what you got). Really strong work!
Improvements: The motif of the last few scenes "rewinding" (it happens twice in this film I believe, at 1.13 and 2.00) didn't really work or add much for me. To me those portions came across as methods to fill space in the video (believe me, I've been there) rather than something super purposeful. The shot of the TV remote at 14 sec I think should've been shot locked off rather than handheld and stabilized after the fact. Super minor, but that shot read to me as a handheld shot you wanted to be locked off rather than handheld on purpose.
