  • 4/23 10:45 am - STORY: I think you do a great job showcasing the different aspects of your broadcast production! You provide the audience with different information showing that the broadcast team has on/off field cameras, on camera options, etc. SOUND: I really like your use of different sound bytes, sfx and music throughout the piece. The music definitely creates that energetic energy behind your video! One change I would suggest is to bring up the bass on the voice at 0:53. It’s very low currently. You can still make out what is being said but it does sound very muffled and distorted. CAMERA: You include a wide variety of different camera shots and angles throughout your video. A couple of things to watch for! Your shots at 0:46, 1:03, 1:06 are completely out of focus! Also, pay attention to white balance. I realize that this is most likely a compilation of clips from different events at different times. Your white balance is all over the place. You have clips like at 0:10 and 0:27 that are super yellow that don’t match the white balance in the rest of your video. LIGHTING: I think you do a pretty good job utilizing the light you had at the scenes that you were filming. Field lights can make things in camera look super bright. For example at 0:21 the vests are super bright. Just something to watch out for. EDITING: Overall I think there is some really great pacing throughout your video that helps communicate the message and story. One thing I would mention is when cutting to a clip, cut when the camera is already moving. You already do this, but at times we do see the camera paused and then move. For example at 0:46 we cut to the clip, briefly see the camera not moving and then it moves. Just cut to this clip when the movement of the camera already starts. Same thing at 0:48.

Positives: This is an interesting, behind-the-scenes, promo. I can't remember a video that focuses on the production team. You presented a robust and enthusiastic group of students who operate sophisticated equipment to cover the school's sporting events. I'm impressed by the originality and execution of your concept.

Improvements: Look at the exterior shots and compare them to the shots of the crew working in the control room. Consider lighting the interior shots to be a little more dramatic so they match the look and feel of the exterior. You can increase contrast and balance the color with your existing footage. But for future projects, think about what you can do to keep a consistent look throughout. After saying all of that, I'm impressed with your work.
