This is a trailer for the psychological thriller, "Shadow in Flannel". I was influenced by movies like "The Ring", "Smile", and "The Blair Witch Project". I created the animation, directed, filmed, and edited the video.
Positives: Great job – what a cool concept! Absolutely love the hand-drawn elements that pull from the creepiness of projects like "Salad Fingers" back from 2004 (and The Ring, as you mentioned), as well as your general creativity in title reveals and overall aesthetic/narrative. The tape recorder shot is unsettling!
Improvements: Some EQ treatment could be applied to Niece's audio in the VHS to make it feel a bit more "roughed up" and creepy. Feels a little too clean at the moment. Overall lighting/camera during live-action elements could be improved, possibly using pools of light and contrast to sell the terror of the situation. Excellent job on your entry this year – there was clearly a lot of skill and talent put into this piece.
Positives: Animated elements are creepy. Good sound design.
Improvements: Would like to see the reaction of the main character to the animation. Would like to see more about how this animation manifests its evil in the real world.
Positives: Definitely not my usual style, but I’ve gotta say—it was super creative. The camera work, animations, and retro VHS vibe were really unique and made it stand out. You can tell there was a clear artistic vision, and that made it fun to watch.
Improvements: I had a hard time tying everything together, especially with how the visuals jumped around. I get what you were going for, but maybe setting up a bit more of the story at the start would help anchor the viewer before diving into all the effects. Also, matching the style of some of the earlier “found footage” scenes with the later ones could make it feel more cohesive.
