  • 2/26 1:20 pm - Good start with audio and leaned into the best part of this story, the music. For the interview, I would recommend the reporter not be in the shot as that adds nothing to the piece. The b-roll is nice and it shows both stage and off-stage experience. Do not fade to black in the middle of the video. Nice connection to the HP community. The second interview was quite good.
  • 2/21 2:36 pm - - Well shot and well edited - Good nats, could probably have used even more considering the subject matter - I would have preferred seeing a single for the interview, not a 2-shot, easier to connect with the interviewer if it was framed better

Positives: - Music pieces can be really hard to edit with sound. You did a great job here! You found nice pieces of natural sound to help your story flow. Excellent work. - I thought you did a great job just explaining this story. It has a clear beginning, middle and end. We hear from people involved in different parts. And you found the natural ending -- the end to a performance and applause. That's not always easy to do. Great work!

Improvements: - While you got a number of different people playing, this story needed more sequencing and shot variety to help you change things up and help the story feel fresh. Next time, get tight shots of the sheet music, tight shots of people as they play their instrument (their hands, fingers, mouth, eyes, feet, drumsticks, etc.). This will help your story flow better - I know it's popular on social media, but you never want to hold the lavalier mic on-camera. Have your interviewee wear it, hiding the wire in their clothing. This will make your story appear much more professional.

Positives: I like that you started and ended with nats I like that you got a lot of different shots of the students and some behind the scenes

Improvements: Why were you in the interview with the conductor? With you height difference, he had a lot of head room and the lighting was dark. The interview with the student would have looked a lot better if you attached the mic to their clothes and gave did a close up shot. You don't have to have wide shots on interviews. It can be distracting. I'm looking everywhere but at the person speaking. If you do more than one interview in the same spot then switch angles. 1:31-1:32 was a big jump cut. Also never let the interviewee hold the mic, because then they control the interview. If you are in the interview, then I want to hear you ask a question. I want a reason for you to be in the story. You had a lot of track but not of lot of nat pops. Its okay to pause and let us hear them play. I would cut some track, add some music and make this at least 15 seconds shorter

Positives: -Great use of natural sound to drive the story. It made for smooth transitions --Well written! The reporter did a good job narrating the story

Improvements: -It would've been great to see a close up of the interview subjects. It's good to have cutaways, showing the interview subject and the reporter. But for the main parts of the interview, a close up frame is best. -Best to clip microphone on interview subject to avoid any audio issues.
