  • 4/29 12:15 pm - You showcase a sense of camera fundamentals in this reel. iIt would be much stronger, though, if it included a greater diversity of shots and camera angles. In addition it includes video editing effects like dissolves
  • 4/28 3:11 pm - It is clear that you have a solid grasp of the basics, but to reach that elite level where you are scoring in the 36 to 40 point range for Camera work, we need to see a more diverse range of camera shots and movements. Right now, your compositions feel a bit safe. The top entries in this category use the camera to direct the viewer’s perspective aggressively, using things like leading lines or unique angles to tell the story. For your next reel, try to move beyond just capturing what is in front of you and focus on how you can use the frame to create a specific mood. Showing that you can maintain fluency with the camera while executing complex movements will help you move from a good score to an excellent one in the visual fluency category.
  • 4/6 9:34 am - PROS The reel demonstrates a strong grasp of camera fundamentals, particularly through the effective use of leading lines and environmental perspective. The opening shot (0:01) is a standout example, utilizing library aisles to create a perfectly symmetrical composition and a clear vanishing point that successfully directs the viewer's eye. The inclusion of diverse camera placements, such as the extreme low-angle at 0:59 and the high-angle at 1:07, shows a commendable willingness to experiment with scale and power dynamics. The technical control exhibited during the tracking shot through the shelves (1:17) and the vertical tilt (1:29) indicates an intentional approach to camera movement that enhances the visual interest of the setting. IMPROVEMENTS The primary area for growth lies in subject integration and the intentional shaping of light. Currently, the footage relies heavily on flat, ambient library fixtures, which lacks the three-dimensional depth needed for a professional cinematic mood. Utilizing tools like a bounce or fill light would help create more "pop" and add necessary emphasis to the character. Some segments (0:35, 1:23) feel like staged poses rather than organic moments; incorporating natural actions where the subject truly engages with the environment would improve the narrative's visual fluency. Finally, addressing the shifts in exposure and color temperature during tracking movements (1:17) through tighter manual control will ensure the sequences flow together more seamlessly. OVERALL This reel serves as a successful technical exercise in environment-driven composition, highlighting a clear talent for using architecture and geometry to create depth. To reach the next level of mastery, the focus should shift from capturing "staged" visuals to "shaping" the light to create a more professional, three-dimensional feel. Ensuring that the subject’s actions feel motivated by a narrative "story" rather than just the camera’s presence will further elevate the work from a technical study to a compelling piece of cinematography.
