  • 4/30 6:37 pm - The animation of the fire at the beginning definitely draws in the viewer. This incorporated some nice continuity techniques, some really nice match cuts happening in there that help tell and propel the story along. Matching what is happening with the music was beautiful and haunting. So many great elements happening here, and the beginning storytelling was phenomenal, but sometimes it was hard to tell what was going on and it didn't always feel like a trailer. Yes, there is a lot of story that could still be told but it also felt like it could be a short story in itself. So adding in some more elements to give it more of a trailer feel, since it is specifically for this category.

Positives: The ambition here is immediately apparent and deserves to be celebrated. The animation is impressive — detailed, expressive, and carrying a distinctly cool anime-inspired aesthetic that gives the whole piece its own visual identity. The artistry and dedication behind every frame is felt throughout, and the sheer volume of work that went into this is not lost on anyone watching. What makes it all click is how the music builds in perfect tandem with the story — you feel the narrative escalating, which speaks to a real understanding of how cinema creates emotion through structure and momentum. This is a bold, distinctive creative vision.

Improvements: The biggest unlock from here is sound design. Right now the music is doing beautiful work but there’s a whole sonic world waiting to be built... the crackle of fire, the weight of footsteps, ambient texture that makes the animation feel tactile and real. Tightening the pacing in the edit and speeding up select shot sequences will also amplify the energy the music is already building. And a touch of voiceover or character dialogue would go a long way in grounding the story for an audience coming in cold without a logline.

Positives: Music works well and the editing rhythm is solid.

Improvements: Some of the animation needs to be more in focus. It also needs more light. A lot of it is dull in look.
