VTV Coverage of the Martin Luther King day classic
Positives: Good coverage of gameplay and announcer storytelling. The sideline interview element is always an engaging aspect to have for the viewer experience. Having natural sounds being picked up by microphones outside of the talent mics are great to help blend what's happening at the game giving the viewer the experience like they are there in person.
Improvements: The audio of the talent mics were consistently distorted/clipping. During the foul, the camera's cut to the right-side under basket camera which was following the player as he walked away with his back facing the cam, then to an upper tight cam that was having difficulty following the player, most likely if they zoomed out then they would have an easier time with the player follow.
Positives: - LOVE the inclusion of a sideline reporter and interview! The reporter did a great job by asking short, relevant questions. Remember that it can be a good idea to briefly introduce your interview subject - while Joliet West fans likely know who the person is, the rest of us may not. - Camera work was good throughout this clip - good job by all operators to have shots ready, and a nice job by the director to utilize all of the cameras frequently.
Improvements: - For the announcers, make sure to not talk over one another - it makes it really hard for the viewer to understand the points being discussed. The play-by-play should be sure to give the analyst time to get their points in, but at the same time the analyst needs to recognize the right moment to chime in as well. - Sound quality and mixing was a little muffled.
Positives: Good courtside interview Announcers were good. P-B-P and Color worked well together with pertinent commentary when action paused.
Improvements: Camera one should push into the action when it gets close to the basket. There is a zoom, use it judiciously. Should have taken the opportunity for a replay of 5:00 play when the action stopped :14 later. The announcer referred to it, but no video accompanied it. Don’t let the announce direct the video game, but the director needs to listen to the announcers so as not to miss any opportunity to enhance the game.
