4/17 8:54 pm - KEEPERS: Cool personal narrative essay. You have a distinct editing style that really plays up your personality in this piece. That's the biggest strength. The cutting and the flow has a style that is distinctly you. That's cool! Good graphic work in various areas.
IMPROVEMENTS:
This isn't really a documentary. It needs more voices and conflict for it to be truly considered that. Continue to work on your production skills overall. Your interview shot needed additional lighting, specifically back lighting to separate your figure from the dark background. The vlog-style shakiness got a bit too much at times. The big issue here was your audio. It was mixed inconsistently. See the other comments on how to mix various levels properly. Overall, I like your style! Keep working on your production skills! Once they match up with your editng...look out!
2/25 1:08 pm - STORY: This isn’t really a documentary. This is a personal story for a news program, or a video assigned in class called “Who am I?”
PRODUCTION: Cameras and lighting were inconsistent. A lot of shaky camera work, and editing was jarring at times. Audio was all over the place, you need to be careful of your audio mix. Allow me to explain: when you are mixing sound, you have 3 basic levels. You have your primary audio (voice overs, interviews, dialogue) which should be between -6 and -12 db on the VU meter. You have your secondary audio (natural sound, sound effects) which should be between -12 and -18 on the VU meter. Finally, you have your tertiary audio (music beds) which should be between -18 and -24 on the VU meter. If this is news to you, then you need to have a chat with your instructor and learn how to mix sound.
