Entry Description

The music video revolves around the main character wanting to confess his feelings to his crush and trying to find the best way on to tell her. I added subtitles because the song on Arabic and I want the viewers to also understand the song as they watch the story play out.

  • 4/17 9:56 am - STORY: Your music video is very heartfelt! It includes a great narrative that follows a character through the process of writing and delivering a letter to his crush. You do a great job guiding the viewer through this journey with your use of camera shots and overlays. Something to consider is at 0:19, we hear the character ask, “How would I tell her?”, but we don’t hear the response from the person on the phone. This left a small gap in understanding because at first, it was unclear to me whether this character was now writing a song or doing something else. Consider clarifying that through the dialogue scene! The ending works, but it does feel like it’s missing something. It would be interesting to see a hand grab the letter from the door, or a brief moment of someone reading it just to give the viewer that emotional payoff. SOUND: Your audio is mixed appropriately. As mentioned above, consider including the phone response at 0:19. The audio of the music track also cuts out at 3:47 abruptly. If that was intentional, consider fading out the music track so it’s not a surprise to your viewer that the track randomly ends and so that it doesn’t feel unfinished. CAMERA: You use a variety of thoughtful camera angles and techniques, including great close-ups with depth of field at 0:50 and 0:53. Great work! I really loved the framing at 1:10. It is nicely composed and visually clean. Excellent decision to keep the blinds lowered to avoid blown-out lighting. Great use of overlays on this shot as well! This communicates time passing and emotional reflection which is really effective! There are some noticeable focus issues at 1:14 and 1:39. Always double check your focus while filming, and don’t be afraid to rewatch that footage even while you are still on set! At 1:27, your framing is strong, but watch your background. The electrical pole appears to be coming out of the character’s head. A slight shift in camera position of subject placement can fix this. Similarly, at 2:55, the electrical outlet on the wall distracts from the moment. It’s a quick fix to reframe or shift over just a few inches to clean up the composition and remove unwanted things from your frame! The drone shot at 3:27 is a great touch! It adds production value and helps expand the visual scope. It would have been nice to see more drone shots earlier, like at 0:39! LIGHTING: You use lighting effectively throughout your video, and a lot of it feels very warm which connects with your story! The white areas on the shirt at 0:41 and 1:23 are slightly blown out, likely from filming during direct sun or golden hour. A diffuser can help spread light more evenly and soften highlights on your subject. EDITING: Your pacing is well thought out and it gives time to sit in the moment without dragging. The light leak transition at 1:27 was well-timed and again, I really enjoyed the overlay edits of the character walking across the frame and sitting down. This was excellent to show thought, emotion and the passing of time. You’ve created a great music video that shows strong attention to emotion, composition and story structure. The variety of camera techniques, thoughtful editing and character performance support a cohesive vision. With just a little more technical refinement, you can make this piece even better! You are definitely on the right track and I’m excited to see more of your work! Keep creating!
  • 2/18 10:36 am - The concept for this music video is a strong and creative one. The idea of incorporating a phone conversation into the narrative adds a personal, relatable touch to the video, and the storyline has potential to be engaging. However, there is a small audio issue I noticed that could be improved. When the character responds with "yeah, good idea," it feels a bit disconnected from the conversation because we don't hear the other person on the phone. Adding that missing audio would help to make the interaction feel more natural and immersive. The lack of the other side of the conversation leaves a gap that might make the viewer feel like they’re missing a crucial part of the dialogue. The song itself is enjoyable, and it’s great to see how the video works in tandem with the music. You did a great job using a variety of locations throughout the video, which helps to keep it visually interesting and dynamic. The shifts between different settings keep the video from feeling monotonous, and the changes in scenery reflect the mood and progression of the song nicely. In terms of improvements, there are a few areas that could elevate the overall production quality. For instance, lighting could be more carefully considered to enhance the mood of each scene. Better use of lighting can make a big difference in highlighting important details, creating depth, and setting the right tone. Experimenting with different lighting setups (such as using backlighting, diffused light, or creative shadows) could really help to emphasize the emotional beats in the video. Additionally, paying closer attention to camera techniques and shot composition would help make the video look more polished and professional. Consider using varied angles, such as close-ups, wide shots, or even incorporating more dynamic camera movement to add visual interest. Small changes, like adding a slight tilt, tracking shots, or using the camera to follow the action, could add a lot of movement and energy to the video. Finally, editing techniques play a significant role in the final product’s quality. Tightening up the pacing of the cuts, using transitions creatively, and ensuring the rhythm of the edits matches the tempo of the song would help make the video flow more seamlessly. Smooth transitions between locations, as well as ensuring that each shot complements the next, would help maintain viewer engagement and elevate the overall professional look of the video. In summary, the idea behind this music video is solid, and I really enjoyed the song along with the creative use of locations. The main area for improvement is in the technical aspects, such as lighting, camera work, and editing techniques. By refining these elements, you can significantly enhance the visual quality and make the video feel more polished and professional. Great concept, with room for some refinement to make it truly shine!
