  • 4/29 1:51 pm - This is an excellent reel with a lot of really well-lit, composed, well-directed and edited shots. Bravo! This is an outstanding entry overall!
  • 4/28 3:12 pm - This was a very well-rounded entry that hit many of the high marks we look for in this festival. You did an excellent job showcasing a variety of environments, from the high energy of sports to more quiet, dramatic scenes. What really pushed this toward the top of the bracket was your use of natural sound; it showed a level of creative innovation in the Editing category that many students miss. To make this an unbeatable reel, look at your Lighting and Exposure scores. The top entries often have one or two "stunning" shots where the light feels perfectly sculpted. If you can find those high-contrast or "golden hour" moments to anchor your reel, you’ll be sitting at the very top of the pack.
  • 4/8 1:44 pm - PROS The shooter demonstrates a natural talent for capturing emotive intimacy. The close-up at 0:10 is using a shallow depth of field to force the viewer's focus onto the subject's expression, providing a quiet beat that grounds the reel. They also excel at utilizing high-intensity backlighting; the stadium sequence at 0:14 leans into the lens flares from the floodlights, authoring a look that feels both heroic and cinematic. IMPROVEMENTS The handheld tracking in the kitchen sequence suffers from vertical bounce. To keep the audience engaged without distraction, practice “ninja walking" to dampen footfall impact or use post-production stabilization to smooth out those interior transitions. OVERALL The shooter thrives in high-energy, high-contrast environments like sports, where the visual energy is most apparent. The lifestyle and interior work currently feels a bit more like raw documentation compared to the polished look of the outdoor footage. If you can bring that same level of intentional lighting and color discipline to the interior work, this reel will reach a professional level of cohesion.

Positives: You demonstrate a strong command of camera movement and have a sophisticated visual perspective, utilizing unexpected camera angles to make scenes feel fresh and artistic. You have a fantastic grasp of atmospheric lighting design, setting a distinct mood in the basketball chair scene. Overall outstanding.

Improvements: Concentrate on camera placement in the to get the viewer directly into the intended perspective

Judge 2

Positives: Overall nice work. The clips from live events/sports are nicely positioned and clearly convey the action. Your "inside the helmet" POV shot is unique and a fun change of pace to the usual huddle. Good use of black and white in your basketball clips, in combination with the lighting it really draws the viewer in and builds a compelling frame.

Improvements: Some shots that could have been excellent were hurt by being unsteady and shaky. If you're operating handheld, get comfortable and eliminate the shake as much as possible. The clips from your narrative work while nicely composed were lit a bit flat and lacked depth at times

Judge 3

Positives: Your shot at 00:27 is beautiful, the camera angle works well, the light is on the far side of camera & actor making for good contrast. Making this B&W works well, when lighting for B&W you need to see things in brightness value to give the image visual interest.

Improvements: A fair portion of the reel takes on a more documentarian position, that isn't wrong. But the shots I found myself enjoying most are the ones where the camera was locked off, you spent time composing and lighting the shot. I would encourage you to keep exploring lighting more, the narrative intercut in the reel desperately needed background separation between the talent and space outside of the overhead lighting.

Judge 4

Positives: Loved the black and white solo basketball player. Opening fly in drone shot was a good opener for the reel.

Improvements: Interior house scenes photography seemed flat, could probably use a good color grading. Watch the direction of your eyelines. You did a decent job editing this, though I would push to refine your cut to lead the emotion throughout the piece. Overall good job!
