  • 4/22 7:32 pm - Good variety of different camera angles throughout the video. Voice-overs are well done. Music selection works well with the images you recorded. Good use of fast motion. Keep producing more videos.
  • 2/23 12:57 pm - CAMERA: nice variety of shots, clear examples of the tools and supplies. EDITING: instead of speeding up the chunks where you are printing and sanding, it might have been more effective to just show 3-5 seconds of the footage at normal speed, and then another 3-5 seconds of the footage sped up. Particularly on the sanding, having another angle of the sanding process (like over the top or another extreme close up) would have improved things. The biggest problem was your pacing. The ending didn't give us enough time to see the finished product, and it felt like it ended very abruptly. Cutting to black before your hand was even out of the frame. AUDIO: your voice over was nice, clearly explaining the steps. The music was a bit too loud in the mix, it should have been between -18 and -24 db on the VU meter.

Positives: Seems like a lot of work for a tiny problem, but I appreciate your eye to detail and willingness to work. Nice variety of shots. You squeezed a lot into just three minutes.

Improvements: I really didn't see the lines to begin with. How did the printer know how to printer that very specific piece? Ending seemed rush. You didn't set the handle in the stand.

Positives: The intro sets up the process shown as a solution to the narrator's problem in a way where the viewer can think about a similar issue they may have. The shot on the turntable at 1:55 is a simple and clean way to show the piece when it is first printed and then used again later to show the progression of how the surface looks as it is smoothed. It's a smart way to capture the details the viewer may miss otherwise.

Improvements: The fade down and back up of the background music (for example, at 1:52 and back up at 1:58) is a bit fast and dramatic. The music level doesn't need to come down as far as it does and it could be a half second longer in order to be less noticeable. It would've been difficult to have an outro with the time limit, but currently the video just abruptly ends. The narrator doesn't necessarily have to say anything, but even a fade to black would give the piece a greater sense of resolution.

Positives: I was impressed by the technology alone. I'm not familiar with 3D Printing. It was very helpful to pause between each step to show the progress of the project. The close-up shots were also helpful.

Improvements: It appeared at the end that the video was not finished. I didn't see a final shot with all of the tools fit in the holder? Not that that's important, because it was about the smoothing. Not sure if the title of this video is applicable to the content. Smoothing a 3D print was only a fraction of the entire process.
