4/24 2:41 pm - It seems a wide shot of the kitchen is used for the majority of the video. Close ups and other cutaways of measuring, mixing and preparing would have helped a ton! If you are promoting the show "The Mane Ingredient" it should be highlights of the show repackaged in a different way. The background music seems consistent throughout the piece and the audio of the competitors is good. The entire piece seems a little off on WB/exposure but the framing of the wide shot of the kitchen is great! This felt a little more like a recap or quick version of a larger competition video.
4/23 12:29 pm - STORY: I think it is definitely articulated that this is a baking competition. However, I am unsure of what this video is promoting/showcasing. Is it promoting a baking club? Cooking class? The availability of the kitchens at school? The message really isn’t clear. It feels like this may have fit better under the demonstration category (if you were to add in a few things mentioned below).
SOUND: I think you do a great job mixing your dialogue and music bed. However, both sound like they are very low. I had to turn up the volume on my end all the way! Your audio mix, especially dialogue/narration should fall between -12 db and -6 bd on your sound meter.
CAMERA: I think you do a great job framing your two teams! However, these are really the only two shots throughout your video. We don’t see a close up from the open until 1:37! I would suggest adding in close ups (b-roll) of the ingredients, or the teams adding in the ingredients into their bowls, or for example a close up of the egg cracking at 1:02. It would add to the comedy if we even saw these close ups when the subjects question what is in the bowl like at 1:28. Something else to look out for is focus! Your shot at 0:13 is out of focus for team Jadan and it stays that way throughout! Make sure that if you use manual focus you set it correctly! 1:43 is out of focus as well! At 0:30, your shot is slanted. Make sure that even when using a tripod it is balanced, meaning that the legs are all the way out and that the tripod head is level.
LIGHTING: Most of your lighting is pretty good. However, make sure that it stays consistent. At 0:44, your frame is a lot lighter on the right side vs. the left side. Make sure that you pay attention to white balance (WB) as well! You WB at 0:37 is SUPER yellow (refer to the Kelvin scale) compared to 0:41. Make sure that your WB stays consistent, especially if you are shooting in the same space.
EDITING: You have great pacing throughout your video! Your cuts really add to the fun and comedy throughout your piece! Again, if you were to add in those close-up shots, I don’t think it would change anything with pacing. I think it would add some more detail and insight into how the cookies are actually being made.
