  • 4/24 12:31 pm - Your color and play-by-play seems particularly impressive because these teams are from other schools. It feels like you know these teams well. This is probably due to some research and advance scouting combined with your real-time observations. That all comes through in the call. Really nice sound mix and graphics. Clear direction, Nice camera work, and logical switching. Really great job!
  • 4/23 8:32 am - Good job with the "hero" or iso cam. Scoreboard graphic is outstanding. Tilt wide camera down a bit. I'm seeing too much of the bleachers at the top of the screen. Transition to replay is jarring for some reason. 1:35 is a short example of what you guys can do. I want to see more. Great job overall. I love your work.

Positives: Really good work here. The story telling from, the announcing to the direction matched and after a player scored we got to see the "hero" from the close up cam. Going to the reply was also at the appropriate time, and able to get out before the viewer missed any game action. The announcers had a good cadence, didn't get too loud out of excitement and really kept the viewer interested and well informed by the play-by-play calling. Hearing a little bit of natural sounds (NATs) outside of just the announcer mics, such as squeaks of the shoes, and crowd reactions, adds to the soundscape which really helps the viewer watching live the moment as if they were there.

Improvements: Overall, with only the two camera angles presented, you were able to follow the game coverage nicely. There was one moment when the direction cut to the tight camera following the "hero" player but the camera operator either wasn't ready or should have been zoomed out a little to follow the player as he was running back.

Positives: - Announcers did a really great job not only with describing the game action, but also referencing what the viewer at home was seeing on their screen. Knowing when a replay is in and talking about it while we see it makes for a great cohesive broadcast. - The tight ISO camera was doing a nice job with following game action and getting quick hero shots after baskets - good job by both the director and camera operator to maximize what you're getting out of this angle!

Improvements: - Camera movement on the game camera could have been a little more fluid. Don't be afraid to use a slow, controlled zoom in as the action gets down near the baseline to help us see it, then be prepared to zoom back out when we head the other way down the court. - For the director - when you have downtime on the court, utilize your other camera resources. There was a long pause before the shooter got to the free throw line, which would have been a great time to have your tight camera get a shot of that shooter, or another tight shot that you could use instead of just sitting on the game camera waiting for something to happen.

Positives: Play-by-play announcer is excited and knows the players. Good excitement, and very good analysis. Directing is good. Didn’t miss any plays and used replays effectively.

Improvements: Main camera needs to push in as the play moves closer to the basket. There is a zoom on the camera, use it. Good sound quality. May want to increase the crowd noise to increase excitement. Needs more reaction shots from either the crow or the players’ bench.
