  • 4/24 2:06 pm - Awesome call! Tons of energy and clear knowledge of the players and the situation. Nice follow and composition on the wide. If available, another camera on the sideline/baseline would help with some visual interest and give the director some cutaway options. Really great job on this! Keep it going!
  • 4/23 9:17 am - Always quality work from York and YSN.
  • 4/23 9:16 am - Energetic play-by-play and color commentary Good cut to hero/iso cam Have the replays cued up faster/quicker during a break or whistle. Great lower third scoreboard graphic. Nice follow from the replay camera.

Positives: Great job overall! The announcers had a good cadence and were very knowledgable about the players statistics from both teams, didn't get too loud out of excitement, didn't talk over one another and really kept the viewer interested and well informed by the play-by-play calling. Hearing a little bit of natural sounds (NATs) outside of just the announcer mics, such as squeaks of the shoes, and crowd reactions, adds to the soundscape which really helps the viewer watching live the moment as if they were there. The story telling from, the announcing to the direction matched and after a player scored we got to see the "hero" from the close up cam. Going to the reply was also at the appropriate time, and able to get out before the viewer missed any game action.

Improvements: There really isn't much to nitpick, however the wide-shot cam when panning left and right at one moment seemed to lose it's horizontal balance, this can just be from the balance lock on the tripod head not tightened all the way. During the free-throw shot near the end of the clip, there's a little lag in gameplay and rather than just sitting on camera 1 while it gets stale waiting, the director could cut to the tight camera of the player and before he shoots the ball, cut back to game camera-wide to see the basket. Great work!

Positives: - Camera work was smooth and did a good job of following the game action. The ISO camera did a great job of keeping up with the no-look pass that led to a dunk as we saw on the replay. - Great job of using some down time in the broadcast (in between free throws) to get in a replay. As long as you don't miss any actual game action - and you didn't! - this is so much more interesting for the viewer than just sitting on your game camera.

Improvements: - The announcers were clearly well-versed with the teams and matchup, which is great. However, be careful about how much yelling you're doing after every basket. There's an important distinction between excitement and volume, and that's a really important thing to learn as an announcer - you want to convey some energy and excitement to the viewer, but learning to do it in a controlled manner that doesn't just default to yelling is really important. - For the director, as mentioned above fitting in the replay between free throws was great - but there was a long pause before the first free throw where we just sat on the game camera waiting. Make use of that time by having your ISO camera get a nice tight shot - maybe of the free throw shooter - and giving your audience something visually interesting to look at.

Positives: Both play-by-play announcer and the color announcer were excellent. They knew their players, and their enthusiasm added excitement to the telecast. Color announcer really added flavor to the telecast.

Improvements: Camera one appears to not have a zoom because it never pushed in. Too wide most of the time. Needs to Zoom in as the action gets closer to the basket. A lot of crowd (appears to be a full house), but the director didn’t take advantage of it. S/he should have cut away to the crowd and the bench as excitement built. Take advantage of other color shots when the action pauses (like during set-up of free throws.)
