  • 4/23 11:31 am - I thought the majority of your interviews were well set up (visually pleasing) I appreciated the time you took to be intentional for “nice” shots. Your B-Roll could be more diverse After a while it all looked the same so the story didn’t advance for me even though after looking at it again the interviews got deeper, the problem is the b-roll didn’t I felt like it was all generic wide shots, for example, show me the girl on the xylophone truly trying something different instead of more wide shots of the group playing together. Given your topic and this being a natural sound package, I would have loved some more close-ups of all the unique instruments showcasing their sounds between interviews. Your titles are not proportional with the picture (they are all too small)
  • 4/1 1:10 pm - Good start with the audio full from the Director and a nice zoom out to show the band. Cris’ lower third was over the b-roll. We shouldn’t be hearing the natural audio from the b-roll when we’re seeing the person on screen talking. Your story was lacking b-roll. The reason I say that is because there’s a lot of what we call “ping-ponging” going on - we see the person on camera, followed by 1 shot of b-roll, followed by another person, followed by 1 shot of b-roll, followed by another person, etc. String together multiple shots of b-roll to avoid this. Also, in the band room, most of the shots were shot in one spot - move around the room and get wide, medium, and many tight shots. Bring that natural audio up in more places than just the beginning and the end - let that natural audio help to tell the story along with the sound bytes.
  • 3/5 11:33 am - I loved your opening shot and how it sets the context for this story being about the jazz band. Interviews do a great job in setting context for what the organization is about and how jazz band helps build confidence for musicians. I love how the student talked about different types of genres being played- it would have been awesome if we could have heard these as well! When the other students talks about piano playing, I would show that shot of her playing and let us hear it!
