BumpBoxx is a audio company known for their high powered speakers with thunderous decibel levels. The ad exemplifies the power behind the speakers, putting forth the idea that a BumpBoxx speaker matches the audio experience of a concert. By toying with color and volume, the ad conveys the power the speaker holds to bring the audio experience of a concert to one's room. The distinct hue displayed during the "concert" pays homage to Don Toliver's connections to the color purple throughout his musical career. Overall, the commercial design is to present the concert-like audio experience BumpBoxx speakers provide.
Positives: - Such a great concept! The contrast between the two scenes and coloring was super cool and got the point across well. - Great song choice and a great performance!
Improvements: - Would have worked a lot better as a :30. It cut back and forth between scenes a few too many times which made it drag on a bit. - I think when the BumpBoxx logo did not need to come on screen twice, could’ve just come on once at the end with the tagline underneath.
Positives: Fantastic idea for your spot - very strong concept having the speaker bring the music to life. The contrast between real-life black and white and oversaturated color when the music is alive is excellent as well.
Improvements: This is such a good idea. Take your time to take it to a level where it's more dynamic. Build as it goes. Avoid spending too much time on the initial setup (putting the speaker down, getting into bed, etc.) This works ok in a short film, but in a commercial you have just a few seconds to set up and get into the story. Once you execute your initial idea, it's currently repeating with the same shots. After the wide shot back and forth, you want to move the camera around. Have the edit move faster with cuts to close ups and medium shots as it builds. The trick is to connect with the audience and then make the cut dynamic enough to hold their attention and get excited about the speaker (and want one for themselves.) Please note: you really impressed with your idea / concept!
Positives: I think it's a clear story that hits on a big selling point in the category. The line "Bring the concert to you" is nice, direct line.
Improvements: I would have liked to feel more stylistic choices made in editing, and the story could've been told in :30 I was craving more shot variety, and wanted to feel more of the characters rather than living mostly in a wide shot.
Positives: I really enjoyed the contrast between the black-and-white portion and the colorful scenes with the band. It effectively communicated the emotion the product is meant to evoke, and you did a great job bringing that across. The editing and visual effects are executed really well and help elevate the overall piece.
Improvements: I would love to see more dynamic camera elements that focus on the product itself to showcase it more prominently. Adding some more dynamic lighting could also elevate the piece. Rather than relying on editing to convey the lighting changes, it might be interesting to create that mood directly on set—especially by developing a more dramatic lighting setup for the black-and-white section. I also think the piece could benefit from being cut down to a 30-second spot to improve the pacing, since you want to hook the audience quickly.
