  • 4/30 9:48 pm - I love the intro, some really good stuff in there with great angles. Matthew is great, he should be centered, he owns the message he is giving to us, he is the center. Whereas a supplemental interview is adding to the story rather than telling the whole story, therefore it is off the one side. Big crash out of the wrestling package, didn't feel like it ended, watch those audio levels, they were very up and down. Great B roll in the restaurant pack, I think that was one of your strongest segments of the show.
  • 4/29 8:08 am - Why all of the shots from the balcony or hallway? They are kind of boring. Try to have the interviews where the events take place. Athletic area, theatre, etc. Rap battle segment was cute. Interesting segments but this is more of an arts and entertainment show instead of a newscast.
  • 4/14 12:38 pm - Opening sequence looks ood- fun to see so much of your school in some creative shots. Ashley's audio is a bit hot- make sure you're leveling all the audio across the entire show so that they are level. A bit of a harsh transition from wrestling to the host. Main host does a nice job speaking- very conversational. Children's play interviews could use a more professional background- you can see people walking around behind them. Good b-roll and interview audio! Rap battle is interesting- what is its purpose? Is there a winner? Why are they rapping? A little background perhaps would help- do they vote? Thrifting- A few jumps cuts in the opening. Very entertaining! Food court- well done with a great voice over and b-roll. The show is entertaining, but not sure how news worthy it is. It's fun, but was hoping to see more news as the category states.

Positives: 1. The anchor had a lot of energy and enthusiasm, which is necessary for their role. In addition, he handled transitions from story to story in the newscast well. 2. The story in the vintage shop was well shot. The camera person covered the activity and movement of the subjects participating smoothly and with ease.

Improvements: 1. Unlike interview subjects, the anchor should always be placed center on screen. His placement, off to the side was a bit awkward as it made me think something was going to eventually happen with the space to his right. 2. The newscast could have used at least one story with a bit harder of a focus on, perhaps, something like a new campus rule, something that happened in town, etc. While newscasts should have feature and sports stories, without hard news, they can ultimately end up feeling more like long entertainment segments.

Positives: Eclectic story selection! The episode included more traditional segments, such as sports and theatre features, as well as creative segments like the thrifting challenge and rap battle. In all, the story selection made for an engaging and very watchable episode. The choice to host the show from the school environment gave the show a very authentic feel. The main host is engaging and very comfortable in front of the camera. Nice job! Also, good segues between packages, creating a natural flow.

Improvements: Think about placing the interview subjects in the environments related to their stories. For example, the wrestler in the gym on the mat or the theatre kids on stage. Those locations could make the interviews more powerful. The audio levels were a little inconsistent between segments. Try to match them throughout the episode.

Positives: The storytelling approach to have graphics ask the questions as a vehicle for the interview was a really nice concept. Teacher rap battle was hilarious. The sushi review story was one of the best photography/editing I've seen in the entire category. Really great job.

Improvements: Watch your audio levels - nearly every story had some degree of audio issues - too hot in the stories, too low in the anchor/host intros. Some video issues in the thrift story - fluorescent lighting is really tough. Iris was a little too open creating hot video. And the restaurant review story went to black at the end. The details matter. Some lighting and framing issues with the anchor segments. If you're placing an anchor on a third of the screen, you need to make sure the other 2/3rds has something worth seeing - a bright window knocking out the lighting of your main talent is probably not the best use of that space. What could have been a really interesting blend of school news and items of community and student interest, had a lot of small errors that add up.
