This is a PSA about loving yourself and not using the internet to alter your appearance.
Positives: Nice use of text on screen that was clear to the overall message. The use of overlaying different shots adds to the feeling of too much information being consumed and impacting people. Music choice supported the message and tone of the piece.
Improvements: Minimal camera movement so a variety of shots would have elevated this piece. Lighting was even but could have been stronger to help support the tone of the piece.
Positives: I liked all of the “Can you” text requests on screen. I think this works because it helps viewers understand that there are endless ways that people can feel insecure about their body and if they have felt insecure, this PSA is for them and that they should feel good about themselves. I think the visual of having the main character look at themselves in the mirror helps land the messaging. It isn’t just putting the phone down, it is looking at one self in real life. The direction to have the character move from their bed to the dresser, along with the smooth panning, is simple, but is in service to the story. I also like how the PSA starts focused on the phone and ends focused with the character.
Improvements: One thing that I think could make this PSA better (though might take some trial and error), is when the “Change Me” comes on screen, leave all of the “Can you” text on screen, but remove the rest of those sentences. I’m curious if it would help with the story to see in a very bold way “Can you change me” The lighting in the PSA was ok, but I’m curious if changing the lighting could help with the story arc. To have the lighting go from a contrasty room where it is harmful to be looking at a phone screen in the dark, to brighter / warmer / softer lighting when the character walks over to the dresser and turns on the brighter lights.
Positives: I love the performance in this video. "Can you make me prettier" typed in chatgpt -- simple but really effective. And the layered texts punched in. Really strong and emotional.
Improvements: I mean, for the sake of having to provide suggestions on ways to improve I suppose with a bigger budget the set dressing and lighting could be touched up. But honestly it's just a very successful video because of its simplicity and subject matter. Its not too dramatized, its quit honest which should be found in a high school budget video. Great job.
