Riverside Brookfield
Live Event Coverage Non Sports

Entry Description

On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Riverside Brookfield High School honored veterans of the United States Armed Forces during its annual Veterans Day ceremony. This excerpt from RBTV’s Veterans Day Special highlights Riverside Brookfield High School’s long-standing tradition of honoring those who have served our country. Unlike many schools across the nation that observe the holiday with a day off, Riverside Brookfield High School proudly remains in session to host a meaningful Veterans Day assembly, a tradition that dates back decades and was one of the first of its kind in the country. The program features student-led tributes, musical performances, and recognition of local veterans, creating a powerful atmosphere of gratitude and respect. Through thoughtful storytelling, live coverage, and intentional production choices, this excerpt captures the emotion, pride, and community connection that define RBTV’s coverage of this important event. Rather than simply marking the holiday, RBTV showcases how RB honors Veterans Day by bringing generations together in remembrance and appreciation, demonstrating that honoring service is not just a day off, but a day of reflection, education, and unity.

  • 5/1 1:50 am - The graphics added to the coverage and helped highlight the event and I liked the variety of shots, especially the moments that gave each veteran their time to be recognized. The pan across the crowd was a nice touch and helped set the scene. A few things to keep in mind moving forward. Be careful with graphic placement and timing. There were moments where graphics covered important subjects, like the conductor, and at times they stayed on screen a bit too long. Adjusting size or positioning would help keep the focus where it needs to be. Also double check accuracy on graphics, as one of the song titles was mislabeled. There were a couple moments where switching could have been a bit quicker, and while it was great to highlight the veterans, mixing in more of the band, especially during transitions, would help round out the coverage.
  • 4/30 8:58 am - Great graphics to enhance coverage of the event, and great camera pan across the crowd, and the variety of camera shots gives each veteran their time to shine! My one piece of advice would be to make the graphic in the left with the different song titles slightly smaller, or move it so it does not cover the crowd.
  • 4/16 2:06 pm - :05 in when audience member stands, camera should have been switched out quicker. The graphic covers the conductor about :23 in, it should have been taken down quicker. Graphic on left says "Anchors Away" by US Marines when it was actually the Navy song. It was nice to show the veterans in attendance but felt more of the band should have been shown especially as they were transitioning from performances. Good coverage on a very important salute to our veterans.

Positives: Good job having cut-away cameras and the roaming handheld to shoot the veterans as the stood up. All the cameras look to match in color and luminance balance.

Improvements: Not a whole lot to see during the band/choir performances. The only shot of the band was from the wide-angle and did not capture all of the performers. The choir shot was only focused on the back of the conductor and not the faces of the singers. When there isn't anyone standing, it would be good to see more shots of the band/choir to fill the time gap. The side left-side graphic that shows the song that is being played is very large and the cameras did not really consider their framing for the graphic and was covering up a lot of the composition

Positives: Good camera movement. Good use of the graphics and the crawl.

Improvements: Audio mix needed more choir. Should have included more shots of the orchestra, the chorus, and the audience, especially when closeups of the veterans were depleted.

Judge 3

Positives: Really great production. The concept around having the graphics mixed with a crawl of veterans at the bottom over the orchestra/band playing to the tracking of saluting the veterans in the gymnasium showed planning and production values. Solid work. Whoever was leading these projects should consider a future in live production.

Improvements: We needed something else to fill the gaps between the branches of military being called. The safe high/wide shot was fine to use, but we could have also filled that gap with close-ups of the band playing or the music they are playing. Or cutaways of the students in the stands. Also be careful how you use a crawl. The speed should match the action of the production. Crawls are often quick The music may also be quick. But the veterans standing up - are not quick. So you end up with mismatched action. This is a really great entry that just needed some polish. I hope I can see the 2026 version of this entry!
