  • 4/29 12:39 pm - A clear and engaging story that visually connects with the song! The lip syncing was spot on throughout, however, multiple shots have the steering wheel covering your mouth.
  • 3/3 9:39 am - I appreciate the effort and ambition behind this project. It’s clear that you aimed to take on a challenging concept, and that willingness to push yourself creatively is important in growing as a filmmaker. There are some strong foundational elements here, but refining the technical execution would significantly elevate the final product. Lighting, particularly in the opening sequence, could be improved. Some of the early shots feel underlit or unevenly lit, or flat which makes it harder to clearly see the subject and connect with the performance. Being intentional about light direction, exposure, and eliminating shadows on key features—especially the face—would strengthen the overall impact. Spending more time in preproduction would also help establish stronger storytelling and shot composition. Planning out angles, blocking, and framing ahead of time can prevent avoidable visual issues. For example, in several shots the rapper’s mouth is hidden behind the steering wheel. Because lip syncing and facial expression are critical in performance-based music videos, obstructing the mouth disconnects the audience from the lyrics and performance. Adjusting camera placement or staging would solve this and make the performance feel more powerful. Overall, this project shows ambition and creative drive. With more detailed preproduction planning and greater attention to lighting and framing, your next video could take a significant step forward in both clarity and professionalism. Keep pushing yourself because growth comes from tackling challenges like this.

Positives: I really enjoyed the feel of the song in coorelation with the video. Really creative to make a song and shoot the music video yourself, doing that will take you far. Cool song. The B&W to signify time is cool, that alone is a storytelling element that helps the audience put in to perspective where the story was, is and could be going.

Improvements: The black flashes on beat was disorienting. I would have liked to see some other scenes of outside life without the radio and how it impacts your daily life outside of the car. Could add depth to the story. I would have liked to see more scenes of you and the car in different environments. Almost like flashbacks or foreshadowing of you having to shop for other cars because the radio is gone, and none of them make you feel the way YOUR radio feels. Stopping the music video for a facetime call also felt kind of disengaging.

Positives: Great song choice! Not sure if the idea for the video or the song came to the creator first but the elements worked well together. Interesting take on the subject. I liked the performance aspect of rapping the lyrics. Adding the additional audio pieces helped with the storytelling as well. I was entertained and and engaged the whole time!

Improvements: About those additional audio pieces. The mix seemed off. Especially the second time we hear the voice on the phone, it's too low and difficult to hear. When mixing audio it's a good idea to listen to your final product on several different devices to know what other people will hear when they listen. I also noticed that you reused some footage later on in the video. Not sure if that was on purpose but I found it to be mildly distracting.

Positives: Very clear connection between the song and the video, so nice job drawing that link. The shots where he's actually driving (e.g. around 46 sec) are compelling and I wish there were more of them (but be careful while you're driving!!!) For the most part the editing is effective, creative, and works in the piece's favor.

Improvements: I'm left really unclear as to if anything substantial is being argued in this film other than that the character *literally* got his car radio stolen and now *literally* sits in silence. I don't think that's at all the meaning of the original song so this film feels like a fundamental misinterpretation of the song rather than a creative spin. The entire sequence of shots from 0.00-0.22 of the radio being stolen is reused without any changes from 1.43-2.05 without a creative reason I can discern. Having been in your shoes before with these types of projects on a tight deadline, I can only infer it feels like time ran out and the footage was just reused to fill a gap. It doesn't feel purposeful, and if it was, I'm sorry to say that part didn't work for me.
