4/28 8:52 pm - + Big "get" in terms of the interviewees. Good job interviewing high profile people.
- In need of more b-roll. Would have been great to interview them in person, but I assume they do not live around here
4/5 8:59 pm - KEEPERS: Nice work crafting a story from the interviews. I thought you did that very well in terms of editing the interviews down to a nice, coherant string and congratulations on getting to speak to the McCain family.
IMPROVEMENTS: This piece needed so much more broll than what you had. More photos, of John in various stages of his life. Imagery of the various books he and his son read. Photos of John with the various leaders who respected him. Photos of John on his ranch. All of these elements are readily available with research, so I found it a bit surprising that these were not included in the piece. Also, work on using broll video elements to give the audience a break from all of the talking heads. Use quick moments of speeches, or news footage etc. to serve as transitional moments that will break up the story into a few different parts. For each of those parts, a new song is needed. Music should change with the topics of the documentary. Use it to steer the audience's emotion to the piece. One song grows stale very quickly. Overall, great job with the interviews but the documentary needed other elements to give it the necessary lift. Keep working and keep telling stories!
