News package featuring Global Academy's Write for Rights campaign event
Positives: - I think you did a great job mixing in shorter, relevant soundbites from all your interviews. - I like that you were willing to use the space in your interview shots to bring in graphics that fit your situation. Great job thinking about making it visual!
Improvements: - This story lacks natural sound. Bring us inside the classroom so we can hear some of the discussions. That helps the viewer stay engaged. - You have jump cuts in your interviews. That works for social media but not in a news package like this. You need to either let the soundbite play, or cover it with video.
Positives: Great use of interviews to tell the story -I liked that the reporter had a stand-up as an intro and outro to the pkg. I would have liked to see the stand up in a different place other than a stairwell. But I appreciated the effort to setup the story with a strong reporter delivery.
Improvements: -Reporter audio sounded too distant. Try to test mics and listen to audio before recording to make sure it sounds right. -This pkg could use some natural sound as transitions. Example: You could add audio of students presenting in between tracks.
Positives: Tyler's perspective was very valuable. He was a great interview subject. It was impressive to hear the impact his work is making. There was a commendable variety of b-roll: classroom shots, footage from Amnesty International, internet shots. It kept the package visually interesting.
Improvements: While I commend you for including reporter stand-up shots, recording these is the stairwell created an echo that took away from an otherwise professional element. You could see and hear the video and audio skipping in parts of Tyler's interview. While jump cuts are acceptable in social media posts, these edits should be covered by b-roll in news programs so they are not as noticeable and distracting.
