4/29 5:58 pm - Commercial Feedback – Nintendo Switch 2 Advertisement
Story (Needs Development)
There is a foundation for a workable concept here, but it is not fully realized. The structure suggests an idea, yet the execution does not clearly communicate a compelling message or audience-focused purpose. Strong commercials—especially within a one-minute limit—should quickly establish a clear concept and follow through with intentional visuals that support it. With more original footage and a clearer narrative direction, this idea could be developed into something more effective.
Camera (Limited Variety – Needs Improvement)
The commercial appears to rely on only one or two camera angles throughout, which significantly limits visual engagement. Professional commercials use a variety of shot types (wide, medium, close-up, detail shots) to maintain interest and highlight product features. Expanding your shot list and planning for more visual variety would greatly strengthen the overall production.
Lighting (Basic)
Lighting does not appear to be a primary focus in this piece. While it is functional, there is an opportunity to use lighting more intentionally to enhance mood, highlight the product, and improve overall image quality.
Sound (Not Fully Developed)
There is limited evidence of intentional sound design. Consider how music, sound effects, and mixing can elevate the commercial and create a more immersive experience. Sound should support both the pacing and the emotional tone of the piece.
Editing (Needs Significant Improvement)
This is the most critical area for growth. The compositing work involving the TV screen is not convincing, which breaks immersion. When attempting effects like placing content onto a screen, techniques such as masking, feathering edges, adjusting perspective, and matching lighting are essential to make the image feel realistic.
Additionally, the final portion of the commercial relies on reused footage, including the logo and product shots. For this assignment and festival, all content should showcase your own production skills. Using existing commercial footage undermines the purpose of the project, which is to demonstrate your ability to create original work.
Production Value (Needs Significant Growth)
Overall, the commercial feels rushed and underdeveloped. While there may be a solid idea at its core, the lack of original footage, limited camera variety, and minimal technical refinement make the project feel incomplete. This assignment is an opportunity to showcase your abilities in storytelling and production—taking more time in planning, shooting, and editing would greatly improve the final result.

Overall Feedback
There is potential in your concept, but the execution does not yet reflect the level of effort and originality expected for this type of project. Moving forward, focus on:
• Creating entirely original footage
• Expanding shot variety and visual planning
• Refining editing techniques, especially for compositing
• Investing more time in production and post-production
With greater attention to these areas, you will be able to better demonstrate your skills and create a more polished, professional commercial.
4/20 8:23 am - Nice commercial. The gameplay clips could have been stronger if they were cut shorter and had more energy sounds trying to really make you want to play them. Try editing a bit more of the initial video of the guy trying to question you not having the switch 2. Edit that frame to fit the TV so it truly looks like he interrupted your gameplay. Overall, fun creative commercial, but could have been stronger with some more of your own gameplay or a shot of you playing the switch 2.
3/9 12:54 pm - Really liked the video game footage integrated into the end of the video! I do think some moments of the commercial could be a little more seamless, such as the clip of the screen turning back on with the person talking. Just some things you can change to really make it pop for next time. Nice work!
