4/30 7:50 pm - Some really nice camera work here. I like the lighting once you are down in the catacombs. There is a term called “shoe leather” in movies where we see characters walking to different locations. It is usually not necessary. We have a good deal of that here. Of the 1:45 runtime, a good :40 seconds is devoted to walking. Maybe some more time could be spent on character or story. Also, the mic is clearly visible on the character in the flashlight spotlight. Fun monster movie. Keep making movies!
4/29 2:04 pm - The cinematography in this project is quite beautiful and airy. The dominant element of music makes the story seem lighthearted. This is a good way to catch the audience off guard towards the end. Though, I do wish the unsettling and dramatic elements of the ending were introduced earlier in the film. The pacing of the first half felt a bit repetitive with an extended sequence of these two characters walking through the school. I think if you had shortened that section and gave more time to the dramatic narrative, the pacing would balance out a bit more. I think allowing for a more gradual build/setup would also enhance the dramatic performance at the end.
4/28 12:17 pm - Strengths:
Nice use of the flashlight at as a spot (around 1:00) - cool framing. Bloody handprint shots and shots of them running out (combined with the monster thing...) were very effective!
Improvements:
Opening (visuals and audio) felt a bit like I was watching a commercial for a college or something- for me, it went on for a bit too long and did not add to the story. Once they got into the basement, the pacing settled in more.
