  • 3/3 7:16 am - Who are the people in the intro? It would be better if they were identified. Make sure you have the autofocus turned off. In your traffic report the focus was going from the reporter to the students and back to the reporter. The anchors have nice personalities and one thing they can work on is what to do with their hands. Both of them spent the entire time with their hands clenched together. It is an awkward thing at first, but practice having them on the desk. Watch some professional newscasts to see that these anchors do. Overall good audio, lighting, and composition.
  • 3/1 10:35 pm - Unique intro shot, i like the risk taking with the boom in to the anchors. Nice graphics with the trapezoid sequence, I would love it to show more context around the school and not just people waving or making faces. Don't let good graphics like that go to waste. clean cuts with the lead anchors, nice framing. Clean show all around.
  • 2/28 11:27 am - A solid show overall. It sounds like an anchor was stuffed up? It happens! Nice job getting b-roll coverage of events while the anchors spoke- sound bites too! Looks very well organized and planned. Anchors read well too. Sports had good coverage and highlights- can you get some interviews in there too? Upcoming events was a nice segment- quick and to the point, yet informative. Shot of both anchors has a reflection in your background- maybe watch the lighting so that doesn't happen. Your opening should showcase the school more- not just have people waving to the camera. Overall, it's a professional and informative show!

Positives: This was a well-rounded newscast featuring a range of segment styles – headlines delivered with over-the-shoulder graphics by the anchors, a news package from the field, sports report, upcoming events and even a traffic report, which I have never seen in an entry! The segments were well produced, showing skills in a variety of newsgathering and storytelling techniques. This newscast is highly creditable. The on-air talent is energetic and engaging but they are always serious journalists. The production values are solid with good b-roll, adding to the professionalism. The high quality sends the message to viewers that the content can be trusted.

Improvements: I loved how the news package on the theater production focused on telling one actor’s journey. Adding a reporter to this piece could help tell the story more clearly. It also would’ve been a nice touch to interview a teacher or another student reflect on Molly and the skills she brings to the production. Again, this is a very solid production showing mastery of the fundamentals. Next, try taking the production value to the next level. Extend the graphics from the opening, sports and announcements segments to the rest of the segments intros and lower-third graphics to give a more cohesive look to the program.

Positives: Really good open, and direction was good. Theater student stioy was excellent- if a character isd strong enough, you dont need a repoter's voice as well. .

Improvements: In the stories on the orchestra and the guitar player, they would have been much better if you had opened for natural sound. would have loved to have heard music - especially from the guitar player.

Positives: Intro Shot to Anchors Creative intro shot that engages the audience. ‘Coming Up!’ Preview Appreciated the preview to highlight upcoming segments, which helps to set expectations. ‘Over the Shoulder’ VOs The ‘Over the Shoulder’ VOs were appropriate for the newscast style and done correctly. Chant Drape Talent Show Story Great addition of natural audio that added authenticity to the story. Positive feedback for including a sit-down interview with Chaunto. Traffic Report with Niko Laurence Great lighting and video composition in the traffic report. Liked the visual of kids passing by, which added an engaging element to the report. Sports Report Content matched the sport being discussed effectively. Good to have the sport next to the anchor for added context.

Improvements: Intro Shot to Anchors If a stabilizer is available, it would improve the overall quality and stability of the intro shot. Vikings Broadcast Logo Ensure that the anchors don't split the Vikings Broadcast logo in their shots to maintain a clean visual presentation. ‘Over the Shoulder’ VOs For the "3 Orchestra Members to Play" segment, consider adding a fullscreen graphic with the concert details or use b-roll with a blurred background and text to provide more context. Over-the-Shoulder Anchor Shots with Sound Mix in sound with some of the over-the-shoulder anchor shots. For example, add a quick soundbite from a member of the HF Chess Team about their excitement for advancing to the state championship. Chant Drape Talent Show Story Ensure the lav mic is hidden to avoid distracting the viewer. Make sure the shot is properly white balanced to ensure the colors are accurate. Have Chaunto engage in a conversation with the interviewer rather than looking at the camera. Instead of background audio, consider adding b-roll over the interview to keep the focus on the conversation and visuals. Anchor Transitions Between Stories Instead of going from one anchor to another between stories, have the anchors banter together. This would make the show feel more dynamic and less rigid, helping to showcase their personalities. After the traffic bit, the transition felt forced—encourage the anchors to turn toward each other to make the exchange feel more natural. Student Spotlight Story (Molly Stapelton) White balance the interview to ensure colors are accurate and natural. Avoid placing the interviewee directly in front of a red curtain to improve the depth of field and visual composition. After establishing the subject, consider covering the interview with b-roll of Molly in her theatrical productions. Consider using photos as full screens for better visual engagement. If the photo isn’t 16x9, adjust it by placing two photos behind each other with a Gaussian blur effect and motion to enhance the visuals. Upcoming Events Segment Consider referencing over-the-shoulder graphics or incorporating a third anchor at the desk for a more dynamic and engaging segment.
