4/23 3:22 pm - I didn’t feel like there was much of a story everyone kind of all said the same thing, "it is fun to be in", "I am proud of how they did", etc. I would have liked a little more depth so it was more of a story. Also I didn’t know this was about a homecoming flag football until 38 seconds in (vs an IHSA sport).
I thought your footage was good, with sounds and plays but after awhile it to looked the same I would have liked some close ups etc to break up the wide cover shots.
3/25 7:13 am - Good start to the story with the natural audio of them cheering. What was the purpose of having the dissolves in different parts of the story? It was a mix of dissolves and cuts and not really a rhyme or reason to the use of dissolves. Remember - every edit needs to have a purpose and I’m not sure what the purpose of the dissolves was. This was an upbeat and fast paced story, so it should be all cuts used. This is the type of story that lends itself to natural audio pops - in between the sound bytes, bring that natural audio up full for 2-3 seconds and then bring it down when the next sound byte begins. They key to this category is using the natural audio to help tell the story - not just have it in the story, but it needs to be an integral part of telling the story. At :40 bring that natural audio full, and then bring it back down at :45 when the next sound byte begins. At :55, we see the person speaking for not even a second before the next clip of b-roll starts - don’t need that - just cover him up with b-roll. Once we’ve seen who is speaking, there is no need to go back to them - especially for just a very short time. Consider micing up a coach during the game and using that natural audio to let the viewer hear what’s being said on the sidelines. Some of the edits were very quick and hard to see what was happening in that particular clip.
3/4 11:25 am - I loved the openning shots of the girls cheering! This was a nice way to set the context of this story. I could definitely feel the energy this team has. I heard a lot of cheering and background game noise- are there any other sounds that could have helped to tell the story? It was cool to hear from the student coaches- could you let us hear them coaching? I would love to have heard a larger variety of sounds. For your interviews, I would make sure that your subjects don't look at the camera and look towards the empty talk space in the frame. This will give your package a more professional look!
