  • 4/21 3:06 pm - This reel opens up the possibilities of cinematography as you isolate objects in a way that starts to lead toward abstraction. This shows control of the camera, effective use of lighting, and a desire to break through and show the viewer something new and exciting even within the ordinary. in many cases, you would benefit from using a tripod rather than relying on handheld or a stabilizer. That said, your frequent use of color and tendency toward abstraction makes this reel exciting.
  • 4/15 1:50 pm - PROS - Strong Opening: The reel begins with a compelling shot that demonstrates effective use of composition and lighting, immediately capturing the viewer's attention. Visual Aesthetics: The initial scene showcases a good understanding of visual storytelling, with attention to detail in framing and color balance. IMPROVEMENTS - Limited Content: The reel is notably short, providing insufficient material to fully assess the range of cinematography skills. Including a broader selection of work would offer a more comprehensive evaluation. Exposure and Focus Consistency: While the opening shot is strong, subsequent scenes exhibit issues with exposure and soft focus. Ensuring consistent technical quality across all clips is essential. Lighting Variation: The lighting in later shots lacks the control and mood established in the opening, suggesting a need for more deliberate lighting choices throughout the reel. OVERALL - This cinematography reel starts with a promising scene that highlights your potential in visual storytelling. Expanding the reel to include a diverse range of well-executed shots will provide a more accurate representation of your capabilities.
  • 4/9 8:17 am - Interesting mix of shots, would love to have seen a second minute to better understand the scope and sequence of shots to make the edit even better. Keep working on shooting in natural light environments as it's clear you've tried a lot of high color contrast lighting setups.
