  • 4/29 8:34 am - Nice replay. Great shot composition. Good use of low cameras getting huddle during the timeout.
  • 4/29 8:33 am - Good cutaways to "hero" cam. Only one "hero" angle is necessary.
  • 4/29 8:32 am - Don't cut away to low cameras when they're bringing the ball up the court after a miss. Players are going away from the camera.

Positives: Good use of overall dynamic cutting from the switcher, especially after a play to show close ups of players. I liked seeing the camera work from basket cams and high tight which worked well during close up shots and on replay. Scorebug pops and graphics were well timed and looked professional.

Improvements: Think about where else you can show a replay. When Lake Forest had mishandled the ball to put it out of bounds, it could have been another opportunity to show a replay. For your primary game camera, try to incorporate more dynamic movement. While keeping up with the ball is important, the camera was very static once it reached the other side of the court. Slow zooming in and out and camera movements based on the ball and player placement can add a more immersive viewing experience (see example: https://youtu.be/a2LWPMA-YoM?si=Dw4svb196bs_obr7 )

Positives: - Really loved the directing on this clip. The director did an excellent job of using the various cameras and resources available but made sure to never take away from the viewer's ability to follow the game and understand what was happening on the floor. - The use of a mirrorless camera as a handheld on the sideline huddle made this broadcast feel extremely professional. Great job by that operator to have the shot properly focused and framed.

Improvements: - There were a few small moments where the sound quality was a bit muffled, but I'm really starting to nitpick at this point. This whole broadcast was really well done.

Positives: Camera work is very professional. The editing and graphics are great. The instant replay of the 3 pointer was really high quality. The sound is great. Really good balance of the announcers and gym sounds. We want to hear a little bit of shoe squeaking and we really need to hear the audience on big plays. The mics and the sound mixing are really great!

Improvements: Announcers - I am shocked that these announcers are in high school. They sound so fluid and comfortable. They clearly understand the flow and cadence of tone of announcing basketball... very impressive! However... There were a few times saying the wrong name or about to say the wrong name. My advice is to study the names, numbers, and faces before every game (both teams). Maybe try flash cards. Admittedly, you only messed up names once or twice, but the reason this is so important is that you don't want to be thinking about names when you are trying to follow the game. You want the names and faces to be muscle memory and you can use all your brain power on announcing and feeling the flow of the game. My dad has been an announcer for an MLB team for about 20 years, I know my announcing! Basketball is harder than baseball in my opinion because it moves faster, especially regarding needing to know the names and numbers. These two young men could totally pursue professional announcing! Wouldn't shock me at all if the announcers in this video made a career out of that! Camera - The camera work is really great, I didn't see anything that I would consider a mistake. Although, I found myself wanting more close ups. Never underestimate close ups for sports broadcasting. We need to see the game but we also need to see the individual emotions of each player and that can add so much for a view. Sprinkle in more close ups during foul shots, getting ready to in bound, etc.
