  • 3/13 10:37 am - I really enjoyed this story - it was empowering for women and a unique take on a subject. It needed more natural sound and it did get a bit long and repetitive. It looked like you might have re-used some clips but overall really nice job. It was interesting and well told

Positives: - Great job telling this story. I liked that we got to hear from so many different voices. You picked good soundbites from each of them. - I love how your interview shots turned out. Good depth of field, great lighting. Well done!

Improvements: - This story was a target-rich environment for natural sound and sequences, and we didn't get them. We need to hear natural sound, and you can use your microphone to do this. Put it on an instructor so we can hear bits and pieces of what he's telling the girls. Maybe put it on one of the attendees so we can hear their reactions or comments. We need to hear them actually working on the car, whether it's a wrench, other tool or what not. Then, the sequences --- wide, medium, tight on your shot variety. This would have really completed your story.

Positives: Great use of interviews to tell the story interview subjects well framed

Improvements: -This pkg could use some natural sound as audio transitions. Example: You could add audio of instructors talking to students in between tracks or audio of tools being used on vehicles. -Try to shoot in sequence. Get a wide shot then close up of the same shot to diversify your angles and help the story move along.

Positives: This story had a strong angle: gender stereotypes in car maintenance. This was much more engaging than just a general overview of the event would've been There was commendable progression in this package. It focused on the problem of stereotypes and then transitioned into how the event resolved the problem, effectively explaining the event's value. I loved hearing all the student perspectives.

Improvements: The production value could've been improved by including reporter standup shots. It would've taken the professionalism to the next level. While the broll was good and there were plenty of interviews, this package could've benefit from a great variety of elements, instead of the string of voiceover then interview repeating. The reporter standup shots could've help break things up. You started to get there right at the end when you included the broll show with nat audio of the instruction saying, "Nicely done." Having more of this nat audio throughout would've helped.
