  • 4/16 1:53 pm - STORY: The story of friendship told through memories, photos and videos is clear and well-structured. The use of these visuals along with the sound from some clips helps the viewer feel connected with the people on screen. Great work! SOUND: The music supports the tone of the piece and blends nicely with the content. At 0:37, it is a bit difficult to hear what is being said. Try raising the volume of the video clip or lowering the music track just slightly for that moment. There are also moments like 2:04, 2:10 and 2:42 where the audio transitions between clips are jarring and you can hear the abrupt cuts between videos. Consider using J and L cuts to smooth these transitions. This means letting the audio from one clip start slightly before (and/or linger after) the video cut, which helps to avoid sudden harsh cuts that may distract or even startle the viewer. CAMERA: A lot of the home video clips feel very genuine which adds to the overall nostalgic and familiar tone of your music video. LIGHTING: Available lighting is used effectively throughout your music video. The variety of footage helps to set the different stages or moods in the friendship story. EDITING: The editing is well-paced and thoughtful . You give the viewer enough time to process what is happening. The journal-style text and graphics pair nicely with the content you include and helps add personality to your project. It reinforces that reflection and memory of this friendship. You tell a sincere story using great visuals! Great work!

It’s clear that a lot of thought went into choosing the right colors to evoke specific feelings, whether it’s warmth, joy, or the sense of connection between the characters. The bright and bold colors help to reinforce the positivity and excitement that comes with friendship, making the visuals not only eye-catching but emotionally resonant as well. The incorporation of text, patterns and symbols throughout the video is also a strong creative choice. The text not only serves as a storytelling tool but also adds an extra layer of artistic flair. The integration of patterns and animated elements further enriches the visual texture, adding depth and interest to the scenes. Positives: It's a clever visual design. This is fun to screen. So many cool visual elements. VFX can be time-consuming and difficult. Good for you for working on a VFX-heavy video! Solid editing rhythm. It moves well.

Improvements: The dialogue needs to be louder. Be careful of juxtaposing dialogue against lyrics. If you must, apply an EQ cut around 1k for the music so the dialogue can push through the noise, Be careful of being too literal. There is a beauty in metaphor.

Positives: The tone of the video is wonderfully earnest, and felt sweetly personal at times. The graphic design and editing of "found footage" or home videos worked really well. I appreciated mixing in the sound from the existing video footage with the song.

Improvements: I would have liked to see more of the recurring characters, or at least a more traditional introduction of main characters, and then an arc to their stories. It felt like a mix of recurring characters/subjects and then random kids, instead of a strong choice in one direction. Also, I would have liked to have seen shots directed/staged specifically for the video, not only what looked like existing footage.

Positives: What I really like about this video is the style of it brings out nostalgia with the song. The stop motion was used really nicely and I love the animation throughout the video. I also like the frames that were changing around the footage. Nice work! I think the story was told well through the animation throughout and was very clear on what it was about. The lyrics on the screen also helped with watching it all the way through. A lot of the clips were on an iphone, but I think for this concept it works a lot better than having an actual camera. All in all, nice work.

Improvements: The only couple of things I could see improvement on is developing the characters a bit more as an intro. If I'm coming into the video as a viewer I'm seeing a lot of these people for the first time, so putting a names above the characters would help the audience get attached a little more and follow better. For example, when the girl at the beginning says "I have 3 best friends", putting that text on the screen of the names would help the intro be engaging to attract the viewer into the journey.
