Story (Good – Clear and Cohesive Concept)
The homage to Benny Hill is a strong and recognizable creative choice. The use of this comedic motif gives the commercial a clear identity and helps unify the story. While the narrative itself is simple, it works effectively because the tone and style are consistent throughout. This is a good example of how a clear concept can carry a commercial. To elevate it further, consider adding a slightly more defined product-driven moment that reinforces why the audience should want the product.
Camera (Average – Needs More Intentionality)
While the footage communicates the idea, there is an opportunity to be more deliberate with shot selection. Professional commercials rely on intentional framing, varied shot types, and purposeful composition. At times, the visuals feel more spontaneous than planned. Slowing down in pre-production to map out specific shot choices would strengthen the overall quality.
Lighting (Needs Improvement)
Lighting appears functional but not intentionally designed. More controlled lighting could help establish mood, highlight subjects, and elevate the overall production value. Even small adjustments—such as positioning subjects relative to light sources or reducing harsh shadows—would make a noticeable difference.
Sound (Needs Improvement)
The music choice is highly effective and does a great job reinforcing the comedic tone. However, the voiceover mix needs refinement. Currently, it feels disconnected from the rest of the audio, standing out in a way that breaks immersion. Consider building a fuller soundscape by layering ambient sound or balancing levels more carefully so the voiceover integrates naturally with the music. Additionally, the audio ends abruptly—fading out the sound would create a more polished and professional conclusion.
Editing (Good with Room for Polish)
The pacing aligns well with the comedic style, and the editing supports the energy of the concept. However, the overall polish could be improved, particularly in how the commercial concludes. A clean ending—visually and audibly—is essential in professional work.
Production Value (Needs Growth)
The commercial feels as though it was produced quickly, and while the concept is strong, the execution does not fully match its potential. One key addition would be a polished product shot. In commercial filmmaking, showcasing the product clearly and attractively is essential. A well-lit, thoughtfully composed product shot would significantly elevate the professionalism of the piece and reinforce the brand message.

Overall Feedback
This is an enjoyable and creative commercial that successfully uses a recognizable comedic style to engage the audience. The concept and tone are strong, and the humor is effective. To take this project to the next level, focus on increasing intentionality in production—particularly with shot planning, lighting, and audio mixing. Adding a polished product shot and refining the final audio would greatly enhance the overall impact and professionalism of the commercial.
- 4/20 8:21 am - The commercial was highly entertaining due to its comedic narrative and effective use of humor. Technically, it was strong, featuring unique and well-executed camera shots, professional editing, and fitting sound effects. Crucially, the commercial successfully portrayed the Butterfinger slogan despite its lighthearted, humorous approach.
- 3/9 12:58 pm - Funny idea and concept! Really enjoyed some of the camera work and sound effects/audio here (the change in focus was really effective). Maybe have more of a build up to the other student eating the butterfinger, and be mindful of acting in the video (could notice you guys smiling when you were doing some of the fight choreography). Just a small thing that'd help your video! Keep up the great work.
