  • 4/23 6:32 pm - Excellent job showing a variety of well-composed, exposed, and vibrant shots that showcased your ability to use both light and movement to share a specific mood and tone with your audience.
  • 4/23 3:22 pm - Keepers: Very strong work on display! You have a wide variety of skills on display here. Your use and control of natural light is very strong. From the opening shot of the lantern to the gardening at 0:16 and 0:18 to the beach shots, your created a lot of compelling imagery with great texture, especially the hose and the close-up at 1:48. The night exterior shot are particularly impressive (0:07, 0:21, 0:34, 0:43) in capturing the action with smooth movement and a good exposure range. Great camera movements at 1:15 and 1:26. The attention to detail is very evident in your compositions. Keep up the great work! Improvements: Not much to talk about here. Some focus issues (0:58) and slight bumps in your movements (0:47) but nothing too distracting. The majority of your images have such strong depth that 0:27 feels flat by comparison. All of your subject have such expressive moments that some of your objects (0:29) can feel empty or stagnant. Incredibly strong work overall.
  • 4/17 10:36 am - POSITIVES: Wide variety of Shot composition shows a high level of creativity. Camera movement that tracks action is solid; variety in framing & composition. Low frame rate @1:03 really adds to the mood of that shot. High level of skill in handling a variety of natural and artificial lighting conditions, directional light and backlighting; the moving light source @:21 really adds interest. Excellent positioning of the camera & subject to capture this much variety in natural lighting situations. Great flow & pace throughout! AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: Not a lot of suggestions here! 1:44 Avoid the tangent at the top of his head and the horizon
Judge 1

Positives: Good variety of lighting senarios demonstrated. Mostly creative content presented. Least impressive 0:25 -0:30.

Improvements: Some clips could benefit from greater steadiness,

Judge 2

Positives: Utilizes techniques of high-key/low-key, mood lighting, & lens flares that compliment the diverse (compositional, angles, focus racking, tracking movement) shots well.

Improvements: Assembly of shots could be organized more cohesively within their respective sequences, maybe play around with intentional mise en scene or transitions like match or motion cuts

Judge 3

Positives: Phenomenal work! Some really beautiful shots in there. I love the shot at 0:32! I have no idea if that's artificial fog or not, and kudos to you if it is, because wow that's a lot of work. Camera is shooting into our backlight, and on the contrast side which is great. Super moody shot with so much tone. Love you lighting at 0:19 as well. Camera again is shooting into the contrast side, and the lighting is superrrr soft which is creating a really nice roll off on the face.

Improvements: I actually really love the camera move at 0:54, but some additional lighting and some stabilization would've went a really long way in taking it to it's full potential. Again, I really like the camera move in the fireworks shot, but some additional lighting and some stabilization would've went a really long way in taking it to it's full potential.
