  • 4/30 4:46 pm - Funny concept, acting, and script. Very relatable. I agree with the other judge that the exposure is underexposed and gray. I think maybe her grandpa could've been her dad. It wasn't very believable. Very fun editing and music.
  • 4/15 12:18 pm - Good concept and dialogue. Some issues with camera exposure - most of this is underexposed and grey. Good use of music. Well paced editing. The ending was a little underwhelming, but the location looked nice.

Positives: The freeze frames cracked me up. They were a great addition to the short from both an editing and narrative standpoint. The story itself was charmingly odd and didn't carry on for too long. Short and sweet which is always good for comedy. I liked how Timmy was "typing" during that scene with Gwen early in the short.

Improvements: It would of been nice if the lighting was a little brighter overall. It felt a little too dark at some points. At certain points Gwen's audio was noticeably lower than Timmy's to the point where it was somewhat distracting. I would recommend double checking their audio levels individually during post production to ensure they're somewhere between -12db to -6db.

Positives: The story was very clever. All the elements of the film, cinematography, editing, v/o creates a film theory known as “pure cinema” in which all of the elements at hand are suspending disbelief. That is an accomplishment! The different gazes are very interesting too. Why does this kid feel so trapped into thinking he is going to peak after high school? and that girls won’t like him if he is just himself? You delivered that sensibility very nicely.

Improvements: To add to the emotional nuance, I needed to see more close ups of the kids faces to see their reactions to the situations. Otherwise the audience is kind of an outsider if the lens is from a distance. Also a little dark, can be easy corrected with a gamma correction / levels balance / color correction.

Positives: Great use of the freeze frame moment and voiceover to add context to the scene. Nice change of pace from the typical "guy gets the girl" ending. This is refreshingly honest!

Improvements: I wanted to see Gwen witness the Bad Boy montage! Her reaction would've been an interesting bit to include. That grandpa seemed a little young to me...
