  • 4/23 11:12 am - This movie is absurd in the best way! Way to lean into the silliness. Law & Order seems to have very little to do with this, the Matchbox 20 joke doesn’t make much sense but somehow still works, especially in instrumental form. The songs are funny, the idea is wild, and I had a ton of fun watching this. The lack of production elements works for this movie, but think about how you might use sound design, editing, and cinematography in the future to amplify the absurdity even more. Nice work! Keep making movies!
  • 4/22 2:04 pm - This had something for everyone. In particular, great shot, audio, and lighting in the opening. Very fun writing for the opening to set the scene. And the writing for all the songs was fantastic and really creative. Also, I loved the “Boom Boom” for Law and Order. Great work with the song too. The goofy work with the worm pictures, the “we need music”, and the various musical tropes were fantastic. As for improvements, the outside shots were a bit shaky and could be composed/steadied to make it more professional and focused. The background work with the “needs music” and even the actors being exposed in the background were really funny but with the shaky camera work, it didn’t feel like it was all intentional. To help with the audio when they are singing outside, add some background “air sound” and even birds and just walking around on the forest to mix the pre-recorded singing audio into the world the shots exist in. Overall, this was really ambitious and a lot of fun, especially for a musical fan like myself.

Positives: This was very unique and unexpected. Fun incorporation of music into the narrative.

Improvements: I think it returning to the original host at the end to wrap it up would create some symmetry and closure on that. I think a bit more writing could've gone into the process to firm-up the parts that seemed to be more heavily improvised.

Positives: I love that you recorded music and integrated it into the story. The story was easy to understand even as it got progressively weirder. Weird was good in this instance! The song lyrics alone made me laugh loudly. The song choices to rewrite were recognizable enough to parody. A risky move but it paid off!

Improvements: Quicker cuts and faster pacing throughout. The action dragged a bit at times. Little mistakes like... the spelling in the subtitles or singing cure for curse... could work if they're done intentionally, but it didn't read that way.

Positives: i loved the beginning law & order esque intro the song was fun and really silly

Improvements: i wish there was more of a location change for the comedic journey! it falls a little flat when the locations are clearly the same place.

Positives: I could see you had fun making this film, that's an important thing to protect going forward. The musical numbers aren't seen often in this category (helps Wicked was released recently).

Improvements: Make sure to duplicate mono audio onto both stereo tracks so it's not coming out of just the right channel. Ex opening scene In the opening scene it would be great for the narrator to not be in a void, it's a single shot without any editing between. We as the audience would be helped with something else to look at. Otherwise a void is nothing. I would recommend focusing on being more intentional with your camera placement and how it's being supported. Moving away from handheld and to a tripod lets you focus on these points. Those elements are focus, stabilizing the camera, keeping subjects in frame.
